Seems like something still isn’t right because there are a bunch of FS threads popping up with $0 price on the page listing.

Our software doesn't technically block $0, so it's likely a coincidence that you're seeing a few recent FS threads all list $0 as their price. If you scroll down a bit further in the Parts section, for example, other numbers begin to appear as well.

However, per forum rules, we ask that you must include a price and not list $0.

When you start a new thread the price is listed under required information, so that makes zero sense. So I probably got that idea by not realizing that 0 is as good as any other number during the dozens of FS threads I’ve made over the last 14 years here.

We have a Marketplace update coming down the pipe that will better accommodate different sales types and require a proper number for a traditional For Sale thread. In the meantime, please make sure to include a proper number in the price field.

Well actually my memory was correct after all. The forum has never allowed me personally to use $0 and last night was no exception (screenshot below). So I don’t understand how people are doing it and it’s why I raised the question. I have seen a lot of discrepancies on the forum in terms of how page functions vary and such. It seems to me there is something amiss somewhere, but I suppose it might be more trouble than it’s worth to address even if there was any inclination to do so ...

Just did this in the forum, no issue. Just put "0" in the price field. No other characters. I'm guessing it's a null check, and a check to see if it's a decimal format. It doesn't like you putting the "$" sign in there. That probably gets caught in their form validation and craps it out.

Well maybe it depends on which browser, using the full site, mobile, or app, etc.? Because it absolutely won’t let me use 0 with either my computer or iPwn using the full web site. Those are different browsers, so maybe the app or mobile sites are a possible source of the discrepancy because I never use those (they suck, just like all apps and mobile do).

.

Hadn't considered that. I did it on chrome. Haven't tried mobile. I'll poke around a bit tomorrow.

edit:
editing my post to "0" works on IE. Android mobile site doesn't have a price textbox to edit, but the android/chorme mobile browser in desktop mode seems to work. The function of that page seems like an inconsistent UX.

Some of these inconsistencies are exactly what we hope to address with the upcoming Marketplace update I mentioned above. As is stands right now, as long as you don't include any symbols with your price (i.e. only put a 0, not $0), it will technically go through. However, per forum policy, we ask that you please put a price and not just 0.

I have a recurring issue with being able to see the pictures embedded in a DIY page. I can see the thumbnail pics but if I click on them to expand into a new window that window is blank:

page: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-...lenoid-190364/

what I see:

been like that forever, in retrospect it should have only allowed uploaded image attachments and zero hotlinking. A lot of DIY threads are junk now because all the hotlinked images are DOA, just as would be expected many years later.

Sorry about that, it looks like the old attachment server just needed us to kick it a bit. We're in the process of updating all old attachment thumbnails so images should correctly load in full when clicked.

Thanks!

sneaky update, you should have just posted it to make the situation clear, but this should take care of it.

Yes, good catch - I did update the post. To be completely transparent, it was a misunderstanding on my end. The software does allow for a 0 to be entered, as I originally addressed. But the forum's policy has always been to include a price, which i did not initially take into account. I wanted to clarify it in every post for people who may stumble across this thread in the future, hence the multiple edits.

I can appreciate your situation, but I flagged a blocked thread on that point pointing to our previous conversation here and in not so unusual fashion nobody bothered to contact and let me know what was going on with it I don't feel like it should have been you personally, but am going to assume that there must have been some behind the scenes discussion on it.

so again, I flagged a thread pointing to the discrepancy and there was zero followup with me on it Then I came here and saw that the response had been edited. I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Team,

That was in fact discussed, There was no Moderation required as i had already closed the thread for reasons i had listed.

This thread was updated, This is where you got the incorrect information in the first place which is why IB Jason decided he should correct the information he had put out.

Hope that clears it up.

well look, I don’t want to get into a misunderstanding over it. I saw a discrepancy and reported it, directly flagging the post in this thread where Jason discussed it with me. It just seemed like someone might point out it was a misunderstanding. I suppose it could have just been brought up here or pm’d someone directly over it instead. That’s all.

Team,

We were all operating with the understanding that IB Jason would update and correct the information he put out.

It was left to him to correct.

No I'll will intended.

However, perhaps take from this, although we dont always respond, we are still working.

The simple truth is this; there’s nothing broken about a car forum being strictly a car forum.

The specific purpose of this forum is all things Mazda RX8. If anyone has a need to discuss other subjects, especially subjects that are exceptionally divisive and unproductive for the Mazda RX8 community as a whole, then there are other forums which serve that purpose. A person might even assess their own post subject content, and in seeing it skewed so far away from the actual content purpose of a forum, make an assessment if it’s the place they should be spending their time on.

No.
the forum itself remains a functional community, even when certain members perceive it not to be and then go Rogue and don't follow the rules.

agreed.
Look guys, this is our little corner of the interwebs about a very niche car that hasn't been produced in what, 9 years?
There are only so many different things we can discuss about this car that hasn't already been covered so yes, occassionally we venture off into other random topics but in the spirit of keeping this a productive forum and not devolving into a toxic forum where unnecessary insults are thrown at members just because they dont share a certain viewpoint we have prohibited discussions around sensitive topics such as religion, politics, etc.
There are plenty of other platforms to have those discussions and we encourage you to participate in them as often as you like that's why we allow you to tag your social media accounts to your user profile.

we appreciate everyone understanding.

I think we have certainly stepped on some lines when some of the discussions were had. A good reminder that why those lines were in place.
