A few other forums I visit have a "Supporting Members" feature where members can donate X amout of money to the forum. this allows for fewer ads and maybe can cut out the intellitxt. The supporting members also get some benefits, such as larger avatars and an email account from the forum, also they got a special "Supporting members" logo under their username. The forums also had a special "Supporting members" section where only supporting members could access. The money from the donations was used to buy goodies for forum contests and giveaways, as well as other purposes.
