The only site that I had this crash IE is here...

Using:

Antivirus:
  • Trend Scan at work (on Dell Precision Workstation)
  • AVG at home
  • AVG on my 2 laptops & 3 desktops at home
* Still crashes IE on all-

Anti Spyware:
  • None on my mobile laptop - *still crashes only here.
  • Search & Destroy on my home laptop & PC's
  • Microsoft Windows Defender on my mobile laptop

All my corporate systems run: Trend Officescan anti-v sw.
I have a mix of Windows XP Pro, XP Media Center, and Win 2000.
All crash IE on this site when posting in advanced mode.

No other real time anti-spyware, all behind a Netgear Firewall/router

ever since i uninstalled aohell i get the same message. "the memory could not be read".

in my case the error was.

Acrobat IEHelper: iexplore.exe. Application Error

The instruction at "0x37001328" referenced memory at "0x71ab428a". The memory could not be "written". i'm going to try uninstalling acrobat then reinstalling and if that doesn't help uninstall hot fix kb883939.

Thumbs up Figured it out!!!

I think I know what causes this problem.

I never had this happen until today.

-----Description of problem-----
Using Internet Explorer, I try to post.
IE crashes, but the post is submitted.
If I try to edit the post, IE crashed, but the edit goes through.
Does not happen if I use "Quick Reply" at the bottom of a thread.

-----Solution to problem-----
As I mentioned, this never happened before today.
The only change I made was in the "User Control Panel" ---> "Edit Options" --->"Miscellaneous Options".

Where you select the "Message Editor Interface", I changed the setting to "Enhanced Interface", and the crashes started to happen.
I changed it back to "Standard Editor" and the problem went away.

It doesn't fix the problem completely, but it sure beats restarting IE and going to the forum every time I post/edit a comment.

sample post to test this change ....

What do you know, changing to the Std editor fixed my problem too. Only thing is, I've always had it set that way, didn't change it recently when the 'problem' started happening. But, thanks for the fix idea!

I'm having the same issue at my new work PC, which is a brand-new computer running XP and IE. On my old work PC running Windows 2000 and IE, no problems... but since they've done me the favor of upgrading my hardware, I get that error message practically every time I try to post.

I'm off today and working on my Mac at home, so I'll try the fix mentioned above next time I'm at work. Thanks!

Just so you know, you're having registry problems and you should probably run a registry utility to clean it up. If you like IE (for some weird reason), you should reinstall it. The windows registry and IE's interaction with it is very tempermental, so I would strongly suggest throwing away your machine and getting an Apple that has no registry and won't crash on you. If you want to be a baby and keep your machine, at least install Firefox or Opera ;-)

Haha, I forgot to tell you that you do have to pass a creativity test in order to get a Mac. Dying your hair and/or getting piercings prior to the test is rumored to help

I dunno.
Actually forgot that there was a problem... I quit trying to do anything fancy after 60+ crashes.

Why? who knows... but how to fix (as stated earlier):

In your personal setting on the forum, where you select the "Message Editor Interface", make sure (or change) the setting to "Standard Editor" and the problem went away.

So my question then stands. Why? I am often not concerned meerly with the practical issues of how to fix something, but also, more importantly, why i am fixing sumthin.

I am aware of the fix. The thing that is curious to me is that I have one computer at home that works just fine. Posts like no bodies bidness. Every other computer that I work on crashes (crashed.) I have no intention of doing anything else beyond the fix, but I am still curious.

If firefox rules so much, why is it that I personally know no one that uses it. Must be some serious **** to have soooo many users. Same goes for macs. (which, by the way, are just intel PCs in pretty wrapping.) My wife says the only way she is having a mac is if it is with CHEEESE!.

And yes, I am having fun yanking chains.

Firefox is open source, that is why it works better.

The fix isn't working for me. I have tried all three settings and my IE 6.0 SP2 crashes all the time. This only happens at work where I don't have the option of using Firefox. The worst part is that it does it on just about every thread. It doesn't matter if I am making a post or not. I will click on a thread, wait for it to open, and boom. I get the error and IE closes. This sucks!
