RX8 Faster 0 - 60 than MazdaSpeed6

I'm surprised, I would have thought the Mazdaspeed6 with 274 hp and such a low body weight would be faster than the RX-8. Mazdaspeed6 is rated at a 0 - 60 times of 6.2, while the RX8 is at 6.0 (I know, you really have to abuse the clutch to get it to 6.0, but still).

Just a little surprised. The car that isn't even the MazdaSpeed line is the fastest they have in production right now.

the ms6 is just a sporty sedan.

but once they have aftermarket upgrades for it, the ms6 will be much faster.... our upgrades (besides FI) will give us almost no gain.

I remember hearing they will be producing a mazdaspeed RX8 in the near future. Do you know if that's true or not?

They have done some work with a SC powered rx-8 and a hydrogen powered rx-8, but there's never been any solid evidence that they're going to be releasing one.

You might check the weight of the Speed6 when you get a chance. Low weight is not it's strong suit, hence it's less than stellar acceleration figures.

most websites list 6.2 or 6.8 sec 0-60 for the ms6, but I found this quote too:

C&D declares the Mazdaspeed6 is capable of 0-60 in 5.4 seconds

Mazda's 0-60 estimate for the MS6 is about as accurate as their horsepower rating for the RX-8. The MS6 is faster than the RX-8.

The thing runs a mid-high 13s 1/4-mile, about a full-second better than an RX-8. And it's AWD which is better 0-60 than 1/4-mile. Of course it beats to snot out of an RX-8 from 0-60.

Oh yes, I was going to post something relevant until I got inevitably distracted by the above. It does not eclipse the RX-8 at all. Yes, it is faster but C&D didn't like it whereas they did like the RX-8 (along with other reviewers).

There is more to outshining a car than beating its 0-60 time.

What is the horsepower for the RX8? I thought it was 238 for the manual....is this incorrect?

0-60 doesn't really tell you much. I'd rather see the numbers for 5-60, or 40-100. I'm sure the MS6 would easily take out the 8 in those figures.

C&D's 0-60 of 5.4 was accompanied by a 1/4mi of 14 flat, and the C&D test is one of the most flattering to the MS6. R&T got noticeably worse numbers out of the MS6, numbers that are ironically more in keeping with C&D's intial drive of the car where they figured "low-sixes" for a 0-60 time. I'm guessing that the 5.4sec car was a particularly strong example, if not a ringer.

I don't know where you found this "mid-high 13's" thing from, but I'd like to see it.
