Still a dirty cess pit of drugs & prostitution . Theyre slowly cleaning it up though
I sure miss the days of the RIO night club and the Basement ZED club .Oh Im showing my age now ,hey
I haven't been out in years ,three kids and a wife will do that to you ,but I've been told the Pommy bouncer out the front of the Crazy horse is still there ( after 20 years!! )
The place to go these days are the Parade at Norwwod or Glenelg
No-one goes done Hindley St these days .Very sad as it use to be the hub of all night life .Heck even Ben Folds Five wrote a song about it and Powder Finger ( now thats a band )

Oh, I didn't know Carl was in Adelaide.

For some reason I assumed he was from the Gold Coast like Ciao.

Carl, you should look up AMG and RotorConvert. I think there's a few other Adelaideans active on the forums as well.

I'm confused as well.

CarlRX8 59.167.98.110
Ciao 59.167.98.110

Several other IP's match as well.

Hmm, for the uninitiated, does that mean Carl and Ciao have been posting from the same computer?

It's technically possible that two people on different computers but the same ISP could be seen to post from the same IP address if the ISP uses a reverse proxy. However, reverse DNS on this address gives ppp98-110.lns1.bne1.internode.on.net which suggests it's the same ADSL or dialup connection.

Umm, okay. Think I understand that. Thanks.

The weird thing is that out of about a dozen or so different computers that have logged IP addresses here under one name, not all of them match both names. A few do though and match up with no other forum members whatsoever. Is this some strange coincedence? wtf is right.

I need that explained to me a little more...

Does that mean:
  • There are a few different IP addresses associated with either one of these two user names. (That would be normal - heck I use different computers depending where I am) and
  • Some of the IP addresses logged for "Ciao" match IP addresses logged for "CarlRX8" and
  • Out of all the thousands and thousands of posts/members/IP addrs logged to this site, they don't match up to any others.

Hmmm. WTF ^2

Cheers,
Hymee.

Out of all of the IP addresses associated with Carl, they are all exclusive to him only with the exception of a few of them which are Carl and Ciao only. No one else at all. The reverse is true with Ciao. Most are exclusively him but a few are both of them. That's just weird. Typically when we find someone who has 2 screen names, all the IP's appear the same. This is different. They each have many IP addresses from computers they have logged in from but don't share most. Only a few. I don't get it.

Perhaps when either of them connect to the Internet, they get a different IP address each time?

I would suggest it is probably the case they both use the same ISP, Internode, and do not have static IP addresses allocated to them, so that each time they (or any other Internode ADSL2 customer) logs on, they are dynamically allocated an address in the range 59.167.0.0 - 59.167.255.255. It's really just a coincidence they have at various times been randomly allocated the same one.

Or, of course, they are the same person

If they are 2 different people, and when there posts are only minutes apart, that would mean one of them would have had to disconnect from their ISP, then by chance the other would have connected and got the same IP address. Wow. What are the chances!?

Oops, last time I posted a rhetorical question I got accused of making accusations!!!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Were the posts minutes apart? Didn't notice that was stated. Even so, if both are using the same ISP and disconnected after the post, then yes, it is possible....and the chance is 1 in 255,255, assuming the ISP is dynamically allocating the whole range. That assumption is unlikely, given the ISP probably has a large number of static IP address clients plus has kept an unallocated range in reserve. That reduces the odds considerably.

But the best answer will perhaps come from Ciao and Carl

It looks like that IP address is from the end point of a Point to Point protocol connection (hence the ppp in the name). That means every time you connect you typically get a different IP address because you get allocated an endpoint out of a pool of available endpoints shared amongst all users. PPP is typically used on dial up connections so you get a different address every time you dial up.

Even if you're on a fixed connection (e.g. cable) typically lease times are short (<24 hours) so your IP address changes fairly regularly.

Seeing as how Carl's first post was to defend Ciao re: the fibreglass muffler packing shitfight, I smell something putrid.....and it isn't the River Torrens.

Carl has defended Ciao a number of times...including his post in this thread.

Fess up Carl/Ciao.....you've been outed.

All this computer speak has left me for dead.

Carl and Ciao, wanna clear this up for us?

Personally, I couldn't give a rats if people want to play games by having two web personas but it would be nice to know all the same.
