Anyone have the details on this mazda stock replacement MP3 CD unit?

I have one installed from the dealership.

 

i was intrested in how it displays the titles, how many CD's it holds, price etc.

I think it will read and display ID3 tags.

 

It will hold a single CD. It will display the ID3 tags on the center console with a few limitations on length and character types.

I don't recall what I paid for mine. A search here might provide you with more information.

 

It will display track name, folder name, ID3 tag (vs. 1.x only) album/artist/title on the red display, alternates between them by the press of the "disp" key. It only display the first ten or so characters, you have to rotate the text **** to display more.

I it'll also read and display CD Text data similarly if you care.

My g/f bought me mine for Christmas two years ago from Trussville Mazda. I'm not sure what the price is since then, but I think she paid around $300.

The install was a pain, but we did it ourselves. Actually I just removed the head again yesterday to do an amp install and it was a lot quicker the second time around. The first time took me forever because I didn't want to damage anything, this time was about a half hour.

 

how does this work if you have the 6 disk changer?

 

I should actually ask if you can do this upgrade if you have a shinka with sirus?

Baywatch: it replaces the 6cd changer...you'll have a single disc MP3 unit, nothing more.

And I'm not sure about the sirus...but I'd be willing to bet they didn't change too much about the head's operation...you may, however, need a newer HU firmware so I'd ask first.

 

The single disc MP3 player will upgrade ANY Mazda vehicle 2001-2005 with modular audio HU's, no firmware upgrade required. Only some 03' and 04-05 vehicles will display ID tags including RX-8 older (01-02) HU's will play MP3 but will display like basic cd.
