Yes to be safe....no to be practical :D

I have turned mine off lots without disconecting the battery....you should disconnect it to reset the PCM every once in a while anyway...a neg terminal quick disconnect is handy for that......turn the ****, and it disconnects....no tools required. A cheap part too..about 8$ from an autoparts store

another ting...be carefull with the switch. I broke the plastic tab off mine when I had to shut it off in the dark one night

why were you in such a rush to turn it off?? implied b/c u turned it off in the dark and maybe broke it in haste...?

Before the ign board was fixed we had a version with capacitors in line to try and filter the signal. It didn't work on some cars...mine was one of them. It crapped out on me at night...and all I had was a pen to try and turn it off. the pen didn't fit in the hole very well and it was dark...so I pushed it a bit too hard and it broke the switch. in hindsight...I should have just taken the unit out....it would probably been easier..........
