Yuhki & East Moon have the same key as me! I didn't bother with the starter button. Will post a pic of the colour coded key when it arrives. You get the key Yuhki shows + a spare as std.
i have heard from a few s2000 owners who actually wish that they could just start the car with just the key. they got tired of having to turn and then push the start button.
some have even said that even after owning the car for more than 2 years, they still turn the key all the way to start the car, forgetting that they need to push the button.
i guess the novelty wore off for some of them.
maybe that is why Mazda decided to make the button an option (at least in Japan).

Specially if you have to turn the key too... seems pointless.

Initially I thought the key will look like this below, but i guees we need to pay extra for this?
I love that pouch that will keep the rotary surface away from scratch :D
I just got the key pictured above! It's a pre-order gift colour-coded to your car on one side and sliver on the other.
But it doesn't work! You have to take it to the dealer to get it registered with your immobiliser. The leather pouch looks good but is actually very bulky. There is a foam insert in it to hold the key and a hole on the reverse where you're supposed to put your remote door opener. Due to the size I'm not sure I'll end up using it. Nice touch though - the key is v. cool.

I really don't get the starter button craze. It makes ZERO sense to me if you have to turn the key AND push the button. Now, if you could rig it so all you had to do after using the keyless entry was push the button that would be cool.
I guess shinny red buttons are fun to push or something.

Ps. If you really want a button to push to start the car, the clutch pedal can act as a starter button. With your right foot on the brake and your left foot OFF the clutch, turn the key. Nothing will happen until you push the clutch in. So push the clutch in and Voila!, a floor mounted starter button. Now all you have to do is just paint it red.

i think the reason starter buttons aren't used solely is cuz they give criminals a pretty easy lift. Now the system used in the mercedes S60 coupe is sweet. You actually keep a credit card in your wallet that is detected as the "key" and all you do is touch the shifter ball and the car starts. That's prolly the coolest thing i've ever seen; kinda like a jet fighter.

The push button doesn't actually make it any easier- you still have to use the key before you can push the button, so they aren't really easier to steal than if it wasn't there.

He is suggesting that if ALL you had to do was push the button than that would be easier for theives.
Fars,
I think you misunderstood me. It would be cool if after you used the keyless entry, all you would have to do is push the start button. That would work almost identical to the Mercedes design you referred to.
