Question Question to those with VIN's

I'm reading about alot of people with VIN's and I'm assuming most of you with them are in the first allocation. Is there anybody out there that has there VIN and you're in the second allocation? Let me know so I can start pestering my dealer again.

Got my VIN# May 23rd. According to my dealer I was part of his second allocation. I went to the dealer on January 20th to place my order. But I think it was entered in the Mazda computer on the 21st or 22nd, possibly later.

Part of what you will want to find out is how many of the cars in your dealer's first allocation are preorders and dealer orders. I confirmed with my dealer that the non-preorder cars in the first allocation do not have VIN#s yet. It seems Mazda is really trying to get cars into the hands of the pre-order customers first.

I can't speak from the point of view of a 2nd allocation preorder with a VIN, since I'm first allocation of preorders, and have no VIN[yet]. But I'm sure I've read some 2nd allocation folks saying they have their VIN.
But I've been following the several VIN and build date threads to try to determine how widespread across the country they have been received (from NE to FL to MD(except me)) and if there is a pattern between colors or transmissions or packages. I haven't found any. The most confusing part is the 2 characters after "JMFE173"-I've noted 5 sets so far:36, N7, 32, N9, 35. If anyone could respond with their state, color, package/transmission, and those two characters I might be able to get a handle on it! Thanks!

RX8daniel,

Most of the VIN's are JM1FE173#4010XXXX.
Where the # = 9,5,6 or 2 so far.

This could be good news for me. I am the only one at my dealer who has a VIN, and a month or so ago had the dealer convert me to a preorder by entering my email address on my car (originally a dealer allocation because the dealer didnt know what a preorder was). I did order (tried to preorder) on January 9th (first allocation).

So, it looks like I am offically a preorder, if no dealer allocations have VINs yet.

Well, I was originally on the preorder list. The RX-8 the dealer ordered for me was a black GT with nav and he has recieved the VIN for that one. However, the dealer goofed because all I wanted was a touring package, so the car I wanted fell into the second allocation. Probably not a preorder either. I don't know, I'm trying to hold out but early August is the latest I can wait (preferably I woudn't want to wait that long).

That character (position 9 in the VIN) is a mathematical check digit. You can read all about it here.
