Seeing how the RX-8 will draw many people from many backgrounds, I'm curious... If you were to join a club, what would you prefer?

Joining an existing RX-7 Club (there by transforming it into a RX Club like the SoCal7s did)

Joining a new national RX/Rotary Club

Joining a new RX-8 Only National Club

Start a new RX-8 only local club yourself.

Or... Not interested in ANY clubs!

 

Never really considered joining a club, but what the hey.....
What would be the benefits of joining?

IMHO:

For local RX7 clubs I've been in, it is a chance to meet other rotary owners in your area.. Find out what vendors are good, and poor. Complain about the dealers. Have BBQs and driving events. Bigger clubs have news letters, vendor discounts, and organize large national events like SevenStock in the west, and MaDS/RRace in the East.

National clubs are mainly a newsletter, maybe a tshirt, and info on national events. All of the national clubs I've know have failed, however. They grow too big, get too political, and members don't feel like they get the worth out of their dues.

Take the old RX-7 National Club and the old Miata Club for example. The only thing really of worth was the magazines. RotaryRocket is still highly prized, and Miata Magazine is thankfully available without membership in a club now.

So, IMHO, seek out local RX-7 Clubs. The should all be willing to take in new members, and most would change their name to "RX Club" if you pressed them Of the clubs I'm in contact with now, current RX-7 owners are getting RX-8's and will be probably the best source of performance ideas and tech help rather than those that come from the pissed-on performance world

 

I like the idea of a rotary club, all rotary, all the time!

I'll be joining the Mazda Rotary Car Club of Florida. It used to be the Florida RX-7 Club, and I proudly displayed the banner across the windshield of my FC. I was not an "official" member before, as our little chapter in Pensacola was kind of unofficial. Mostly a few guys that would occasionally show up at another guy's house and work on somebody's car, followed by some spirited driving and grub. I learned a tremendous amount just by being around those cats. I participated in my first clutch change over there, which came in very handy, as I later ended up needing to replace my clutch twice in 9 months. I know I saved a fortune by doing it myself, but I also I got that satisfaction of doing it myself. I probably would not have attempted such a job had I not gotten that previous experience with it. I also convinced a coworker to let me replace the clutch in his Isuzu Rodeo a couple of years later. It was a little bit different, but pretty much the same principles.

So, I'd say the biggest thing you get out of regional clubs is sharing of knowledge and experience. Really, you get out what you put into it.

 

All rotary club, like RPNW (Rotary Power Northwest) or even RRoW (Rotary Rockets of Washington). The RX-7 is not the only rotary powered vehicle, and even then, there are three generations of that vehicle. Each generation has it's own following and is distinctive in both looks and performance. If you really wanted to to follow the logic of having a distinct RX-8 Club, why wouldn't you have a club for each generation of RX-7. I plan on driving my RX-8 to club events on days when I don't feel like taking one of my othe rotary powered cars.

I don't know about you guys, but this is all the club I need.

 

which ever has the most amount of people ill join..but also depends on the benefits :D

 

I'll join any club that can organize track/autox events OFTEN.

I want to make the best of having a car like the RX-8, and an autox/track day is how to do it... but I want it often!

I personally belong to RPNW (www.RPNW.org) I have found it to be a great experience. You meet a lot of fun people who share the same passion (some much more) for the rotary engine. It is a great place to network and filter all of the resources that are available. Who is the best at .....(fill in the blank). We have drives, BBQs, car shows, get togethers, dyno days, and track events - a few of us drove to SevenStock last year, etc. I have never been to a RRoW (www.rrow.org) meeting, but i know a number of their members and I have been responsible for putting together multi-club meets, like the one we are having in Wenatchee at the Apple Blossom Festival in about a week (www.nwrotorrally.org). I think it's worthwhile!

 

I wouldn't mind participating in a South Florida Rotary Club or getting one together if there aren't any well organized ones around (which I'm sure there probably are). If it was part of a national rotary club would be even better, but I'm pretty open to hanging out with all rotary owners. I'm really looking forward to picking people's brains about rotary tuning and the rotary cars in general. :D

 

I would want to join a Rotary Vehicle Club. The more the merrier!

I have been reading all the posts, but not posting many messages. I chime in when when I think I have something to add that I think is meaningful. The sites are going great though, keep up the great work!
