Full Engine Recondition - Warranty Question/Advice

Hi Guys,

My RX-8 had an engine recondition back in March this year, I've taken it back in now to be checked (2,000km check) and also it was overheating on idle in neutral, but not in 1st, if you held the clutch in.

Just a quick question I was told it had a 1 year warranty when I paid almost $8k in March. Now it appears a cooling fan switch has melted, one fan wasn't working, and I've been quoted another $500 + to be paid on completion of check-up.

Should this not be included in the warranty? And to me it seems it was overlooked to begin with, so I shouldn't have to pay more?? A little frustrated, I was told fans are not part of the engine, and to me, I thought if it was a recondition, all should be included? Any mechanics out there?

Thanks guys,
A.

What exactly is a recondition? You signed a contract, what did it include?

Unfortunately I agree that fans aren't part of the engine. They're under the hood, but so are many other things.

I would have thought the shop checked things like fans and OMP lines were all functional before handover to you. Maybe not.
These would have been bolted off old engine and onto new one, so if they were good then, still be good or opposite could be true.
What did the recondition include? Everything else will be however old that car/ engine was.
I been through all the same issues, unfortunately no remans available in Aus. Its either new from mazda or backyard job or anywhere in-between.

Fans are ancillaries just like your alternator, things that don’t actually form the engine. A decent workshop should check these things before letting you take the car, interesting…who built this motor anyway?
