Max REW build

So it all began a couple years ago when i was discussing with some guys in my local rx club about how to make more power with a rx8 and i didnt wanted to go turbo on the renesis. One guy told me about swaping the fd engine in the rx8, ive seen pics of swapped cars but i never tought it was doable, only magazine stuff. We spoke on and the idea was in my mind now. Started to do my homeworks, saw what was needed and what it implicated to do the swap and at some point, i saw it was not that much of a dream, it could happen. So i started to do my spec sheet and did some parts shopping.

So far i got pretty much everything i need, the car is in the shop for the winter. We're gonna remove the renesis soon and start building the engine and then put parts on it and see where it goes.

Engine will be a remanifactured 13B-REW(plates will be faced, housing refurbished and hardened), street ported with oversized studs and goopy seals. Basicly its gonna be better than a new engine, no corners will be cut on the engine build. Its built by derwin tuning here in quebec

Im gonna use the adaptronic pnp ecu. The support with this ecu is good and its a modern unit compared to others. Its gonna control the engine and boost and oem ecu will do the rest of the car to keep oem functions. I have the full function trigger kit with a rx8 teeth patern so the oem ecu will work like it should. It will be tuned by derwin as well.

Turbo is a 6266 gen 2 ceramic ball bearing, it should do the power i want still quick spooling and i did not break the bank with it. i needed a compact unit since im gonna try to use the HKS cast manifold. The valves are a single tial MVR and a Q. If the turbo doesnt fit with hks manifold, a custom one will be made.

Im gonna use the RX8performance mount i bought from firecran, looks surdy and was cheap so its an easy pic.

Ill use the Xcessive lim with 4 ID 1000 and theyre gonna be controled like the rx8 in 3 stages instead of 2 like fd, primaries are also ID 1000. Fuel rails are full function engineering for both, also have their block off plates. I plan on doing a surge tank with something like the integrated engineering dual 044 surge tank but for break in and low boost ill stick with the oem S2 canister with a hi flow Denso fuel pump. I have to make sure its the right pump but from my research it is.

I had a greddy elbow modded to fit the rx8 TB on it, had a bhr TB spacer welded on and a flange to fit directly on the Fd uim.

Ill use the AEM water/meth kit with the failsafe gauge. i dont need to tell the benefits of water meth.

Clutch is a ACT street disc from rx8 since im gonna use the rx8 tranny until it blows and then ill swap to a 5 speed unit.

There are many other things ill go through during the build. Im gonna post pics of the build as it goes.

There is a good reason for this!
If you want REAL major horse power you go REW!

Max congrats, gonna be a sweet build!
I like that elbow.

Ew precision.

Should be able to hit about 500 by maybe 23-25PSI though.

Good luck with the build.

Are you going with the REW front cover then?
If you are, then I have some info that I can share.

Looks like a great build Max! What is your plan for integrating with OBDII and the rest of the car's electronics?

Interesting....so like a hybrid approach where the stock ECU runs the car electronics but the adaptronic runs the engine? I've not seen this done before. Are you the first to do it or is that standard practice?

Pretty much everyone does it this way for a street car. Other option is full wire in standalone more suitable for race cars

Is there a thread here somewhere detailing the piggy back route? I have to do this with my lpg ecu n it seems daunting.

I too would love to see some info on this. That seems to be the largest hurdle for a swap of this nature....(getting the electronics sorted)
