Max a few questions if its ok.

Im currently in the process of an REW swap on a series 1 with an adaptronic pnp ecu.

Did you have to extend the engine wiring loom to reach around the back of the FD upper plenum/manifold ?

Are you using an OMP (oil metering pump) or premix ?

If not did you plug in the RX8 OMP to fool the factory ECU that its still there ?

Did you have to shorten the lower water pump inlet to clear anything ?

Did you do the return fuel system with surge tank yet and if you did can you please detail your setup, especially how you connected the series II assembly to the surge tank and what you connected your return line to in the series II fuel pump assembly.

I will be using the series II fuel pump assembly with an upgraded fuel pump going to a 3 liter surge tank in the boot via a -6 fitting from the fuel pump outlet to the surge tank and then dual bosch 044's to the engine and am trying to figure out how to do so, where to connect the return line from the surge tank to the stock assembly using a -6 bulkhead fitting and what to connect it to in the fuel pump assembly so that the fuel tank can continue to work like in a standard car (syphon fuel from the right side of the tank etc).

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

ratm, I suggest you start a new thread with your questions then continue it as a build thread. That would be better for you and keep Max's build thread clear.

No, only the coil harness were extended because i didnt put them in stock location

Premix only, not much room down there and i have the rew cover anyway

Just plugged in
Did you have to shorten the lower water pump inlet to clear anything ?
Just rotated it to be in a good angle and reweld

I dont want a surge tank, right now i have a s2 with a denso 265 pump returnless but going back to s1 with a walbro 450lph in tank and ill do a return line

Thanks for the reply, you saved me a lot of time mate, greatly appreciated !

I will be starting a build thread in about two weeks once the engine and gearbox are in the car, then I can take pics as I go through the steps of the conversion.

Thanks again.

Some changes this year, removed the intakr tube and relocated the maf. Still tuning it, at 15psi right now. I have to do a fuel pump upgrade (walbro460) this summer for more boost

So its 2018, right?

precision turbo took a **** at the end of 2017 so i upgraded it to a garrett gtw3884r wich is watercooled(prefer watercooling imo) and added innovate tc4(1 sensor per runner)

took her back home for some more goodies got her a new ecu! So out with the select and in with the modular ! Added a fuel pressure sensor wired to ecu and plugged in the tc4+ and psb1 with serial cables and then setted up the ecu at my local shop.

Ecu is far better in every ways than select, alot more functions, flexibility and its alot more capable than select, real testing soon

Went on the dyno but had fuel pressure drop pretty bad so had to stop there.

While on dyno, o2 sensor got cooked so i made this ghetto heat shield on the sensor and moved it further downstream.

Finally replaced the fuel pump with a walbro 450 i fitted in the oem s2 assembly and added a fpr and radium venturi and return line. i have to book another dyno session but so far it works great

Great progress, can't wait to see the results. My adaptronics internal MAP sensor is going to ****, it is logging phantom boost spikes that do not exist and causing the ECU to dump so much fuel that I go <10:1 AFR. Hope it all works out for you.

Depends where you connect map sensor hose to. I had issues before on the select also, it fluctuated alot under boost, moved the connection for map in the tb flange and added a restrictor pill to damp the signal and it helped. Modular is better on that part also

Car is running fine, tuned it up to 20-21psi and lowered to 16psi because its easier to manage and the clutch is pretty much at its limit.

adaptronic modular is alot(read 100 times) better than select. I can control everything with it. It idles perfectly, fueling was really easy to tune with the tracer in the fuel map, i just turned on closed loop boost control and im tuning it for more stable and constant results. I need to fine tune the transient throttle wich is not an easy task when you learn it by yourself but ill get to it. The abs and tcs for some reasons still not works like oem, dont know why, everything is up to date firmware wise but seems the canada can bus and usd can bus is not the same. Doesnt really matter but id like abs tho.

Fueling is now sufficient for my needs, with the walbro 450 in tank it works really well. Just need to mod the fuel pump metal cover because my fuel line is higher than the fuel pump assembly. Return system works really well with radium jet pump to do the oem venturi job.

With 3 kids its harder to find time to work on it and drive/tune it, good thing is i didnt do much on it this year, everything holds on strong and does a good job.

I still have a glowing « issue » when i cruise, i advanced the timing, enriched the mix and still get the same results in the end but the egts are normal from what i read on rx7club and from other tuners, someone told me some cars glow some other dont so it seems not to be a major issue.

Last year i tried to get the car on the dyno but after some runs i had fueling issues, seemed to be vapor lock in the secondary fuel rail so the best we got was at 12 psi and made like 320whp or so. It did the same thing when i was returnless with aem 320lph pump. In the street i never had that issue but i also fixed some stuff on the fuel pump after that(pressure leak and the pump discharge).

very happy with the results in the end, it was alot of work but i had fun doing it. Money wise it wasnt a good move, i probably will never be able to sell that thing and i should have gone for another chassis with a already good powerplant like e92 m3(for the same money) but knowing myself i would have modded it anyways and be at the same point

I love how this car teached me so many things like wiring, electronics, mecanic and most important, ecu tuning. I learned alot during the process and i feel great because of that.

still having some minor issues i have to fine tune in the ecu like tip in and boost control but time will do its job and ill figure it out like the rest

car pulls strong, breaks traction in 2nd easily even with re71r tires at 15psi. Would love to try a autocross event and some drag races to see how it does

Nice! I have been following you since I started my REW swap last year. Im getting close to working with the fuel system and I like how clean yours came out. But I wanted to see whats your opinion on the new B2A Fuel Surge tank they recently made? Im thinking of going with them, but you seem to not have issues with what you already have.

B2a unit is for sure a great piece! Not cheap but its well made and fitment/fonction is clearly better than what i did even if i dont have any issues exept the supply fitting not clearing the steel cover under the seat

Hey just found this thread looking for some info on how guys are building their return setups. By looking at your pictures I see a -6an line coming off the pump as the feed but I dont see one coming back as the return. Did you use the stock line the return?

In 2019 i didnt do anything to it exept fuel, oil and plugs

April 2020:

its been a early start of the season this year and covid crap gave me more free time to do some stuff i wanted to do on the car

i fabbed a cover for the fuel supply line since it sticks out the metal under seat cover so if someone sit on the back seat, it wont bent the fuel line.

raised my suspension a bit and cleaned my coilovers/brakes/arms while i was there

changed my old plugs (bur9eqp x4) for 7420 10/10.5 and jeez theyre good! Dont know why i didnt do it before its a real good improvement

drained my windshield washer fluid i used for w/m injection and made my own w/m, also changed my 1000cc injector for a 500 and lowered my settings on aem controler to 5/15 psi

smoothed the fuel map and tuned closed loop boost control and closed loop idle control to have something nice and stable and on target

i did a small 3rd gear pull and managed to to 14kph/s acceleration(9mph/s) at 17 psi and was still super rich(9afr)

unfortunately my 5th gear started to grind when i shift, i think its common in fd to have this issue so ill have to rebuilt the tranny someday and i would upgrade my clutch/disc for a grippier one at the same time but dont know when ill do that

my oil pan took a beating, have my eyes on a nicon rotary low profile oil pan but also i dont know when ill get this done

cheapest fuel ive seen in a long while, basicly when i started driving 15years ago

I would try and lean it out to at least 10.5:1 if not a bit leaner. You should pick up a bunch of power just doing that alone. At 9-10:1 you are asking a lot of your ignition system. With Water/Meth and 17 psi, you should be able to run all day at 11.0:1 without issue... Over the years I have come to realize that these motors are much more resilient than the internet would lend you to believe.

i left the evap line alone, just put a check valve at the end of it

i plumbed the return line into the oem supply fitting on the pump housing and made a bulkhead fitting for the new supply line

iirc my target at 17 psi is like 10.5 so i have to tune fuel map to get closer to target. Car felt good tho with no breakup ot hesitation at all but yeah, leaner afr will make more power for sure

I like the trunk wing you have there. Where did you get it? Same for the side skirts, they look pretty good too. Sources?
