Couldn't find anything on this so here's my question: Is the series II gauge cluster compatible with a series I car? I believe I read that the manual and auto clusters are compatible with each other but I wasn't sure about this. I like the look of the series II cluster better than the series I. I tried doing this on my last car, A nissan, and although the harnesses are identical, the updated cluster on that car had a different pinout so it worked but I had no speedo and a bunch of random lights on. I wouldn't want to buy one and then find out this would have the same problem. Any ideas?

 

search harder, fio7 did the swap.

iirc everything worked except the fuel gauge, and obviously the rolling redline gauge.

might have been warning lights on as well.

 

I going to armchair this one and say that it probably won't work to put the series II in a series I. If you look at two pictures side by side you can see that several updates were made on the series II for example there is no oil pressure gauge. The fuel gauge was moved to the right side and the odometer was moved to the left so I have my doubts that it's a direct plug and play. I'm sure they moved other indicators around as well though I don't know how much it would effect compatibility.

Personally I couldn't justify the price unless you already have a series II cluster it's about 800 for a new one (doubtful you will found one used). Plus you are losing your oil pressure gauge. Yeah you can get an aftermarket one but even though you might like how the series II cluster looks the series I is a better design in my opinion.

 

They can be found on ebay for around $150, and I'm planning on going with an aftermarket 3 gauge setup. Also, I see that you have a Versa, thats actually what I traded in for the RX.

 

Just found the thread on his dimming cluster issues. Had to actually look him up by his user name and then found it. Reason I didn't find it before is that the thread isn't actually about swapping the clusters, it just happens to have the details in it. Thanks for the lead though

 

The oil pressure gauge it just a dummy light with a needle. It would probably just be replaced by a light.

 

Haha definitely a nice upgrade for you then It's a good car and good on gas but boring to drive. It's my commuter.

 

That would make sense considering they removed it. Plus, if you lost oil pressure that gauge wouldn't really be helpful anyway. You'd know it was happening and it would be pretty quick. It makes me feel more secure though

 

Exactly the reason I got rid of mine. And mine had an MR20 in it too.
