Everyone says "you need to spend the $ for a decent kit", however i'm sure SOMEONE has fabricated their own by maybe using old parts etc. I wonder if you could put together a kit that is almost as good as a greedy? Or maybe i'm just crazy...

I'm really tempted to buy a piece of SH*T kit, something such as this (just an example)

This kit would act the foundation, and then maybe go to junkyard or shop online for some other cheap parts.
Now to the questions has anyone "attempted" this, as i kind of have an image of my car just blowing up.
(i would of course have my buddies help me out doing this, they know a lot more than me, i have learned a fair amount for other forms, however i feel a specific RX8 forum would be the ideal place to start this mission!)

What i'm getting at is, best bang for you buck essentially. Anyone have any dyno's with the cost of the kit? Maybe we could use a calculation such as:

(Rx8 with turbo kit - Stock Rx8) / Cost

and see what combination of garbage... i mean cheap parts* would perform the best for the value. just an idea...

Imagine having a turbo kit just as good as the greedy for a quarter of the price.

Those kits don't come with an exhaust manifold...so the most difficult part to build is not in there. The parts in those kits tend to be real crap...so you end up having to buy a new turbo and BOV...so basically you end up paying $900 for a bunch of intake tubing and couplers and a few other miscellaneous parts that don't fit...

So the short answer is don't do it....

Mine was a custom build by someone else.

I had to buy a **** tonne of supporting mods and replacement parts.

I built my kit for way less then most would assume. I doubt anyone will be able to pull off what I did but give it a shot

If you have to ask ....

 

Ask yourself what's the benefit of a kit.

1) keeps costs down, all the parts fit and no custom work needed, you know it's going to fit, go to your local fabricator and ask for a turbo manifold, it's going to cost you a lot more than a kit version.

2) everything is included in the kit, less thinking for you.

3) all the r&d has been done no or little testing and hoping on your part.

Your basically asking how can I make something already really value cheaper, the answer Is cut corners. But that will cost you in the long run.

Look into buying a 2nd hand kit if you really are a tight ***.

 

A tight *** shouldn't even consider turboing a car. The hemorrage could be fatal...
