Hi i just recently installed a greddy turbo kit and after i drove it for about 2 minutes ALOT of white smoke started pouring out after about 30 min i lost about 3 quarts of oil and parked it... my initial thought wad that i rebuilt the turbo wrong or i blew the seals? but i just took the turbo off and it looks just like the day i built it no seals bad no shaft play no nothing. Now i didn't have instructions when installing the kit and i didn't know where to hook up any of the factory air box intake hoses that were left over so i hooked the one that goes down to the lower intake manifold to the 90% pipe with a nipple and the other one that comes through the same opening at the top of the motor on the side of the alternator i hooked up to the intake pipe. as for the oil filter neck hose i just put a breather filter on.

Can the way i hooked up the intake hoses be the reason why im smoking so bad?
Any help is welcome thanks

Btw car starts fine and doesn't turn off, also coolant level stays put

 

Based on the above quote you need to put the tools down and step away from the car before you make things worse. What was the result of your other thread?
Find the instructions and make sure you installed the turbo correctly. There could be a number of things you did wrong, any other advice here would only be a guess.
It would also help list what engine management your using and other supporting hardware needed to have a well running kit, you did read the sticky posts about going FI didn't you???

 

my other post i could not find a tool to fit and it ended up being that the switch was stripped out from previous owner so i took vice grips to it and got it off but i was trying to do things the right way... i bought the kit used so it didn't come with instructions but i looked up the greddy pdf... which only tells you to hook up the jet air hose to the back of the 3 inch pipe which i did. Anyway im not gonna argue i usually figure stuff out on my own but was just seeing if some one could save me some time

 

look in the intake if it's soaked in oil?

 

once i removed the turbo the intake did have a bit of oil probably like 1/4 cup and the inter cooler piping probably had like 1/2 quart of oil. When i first started the rx8 i had a nipple over the oil filler neck vacuum port, could this have caused increased pressure in which the oil wasn't draining properly and spilling out the seals as it had nowhere to go? The only reason why i put the nipple there is cause i used to do it with my rx7 once i did block off with no problem. There is no oil in the intake manifold though

 

That's the crankcase ventilation, you want to leave that open..............

Installing a turbo kit is no problem if you know what you're doing.

 

Did you fit a restrictor to the turbo oil supply ?

Where does the oil line go ?

Ditch the turbo and stay N/A you are asking for a lot of headaches. Been there done that.

 

I had the Greddy turbo kit installed in my for about a month. Problems from the start to when I had it removed. I agree with above, ditch that thing. Greddy failed in the turbo kit for the RX-8. Your car never seem to drive right. issue after issue and the hp I gained was not worth the cash invested. Could get that hp out of others mods for less $.

 

/\ yet another case of poor research and execution . Plenty of people around here get excellent results with the Greddy kit (with a few upgrades) .

 

I don't thinks so, i spend a lot of time doing reaserch i rather drop 5 or 7 G's on my FD and triple the HP gain that you will ever make on the RX8. Just saying

 

I did lots of research fit in a restrictor but it was .065 or w/e i was gonna try .04 but said **** it and took it off ive had 3 other turbo charged cars and this kit is designed poorly... just sold the car 2 days ago anyway im done with rotary after having a na fc and a turbo 2 swapped fc3c convertible, i love turbo cars but this car is not meant to be turbo. I was only installing it to hopefully get more money for the car when i sell it cause it already had coilovers and wheels. and to be honest the average 350z will beat a stock turbocharged rx8 seen plenty of vids... im glad i buy cars used and never buy brand new cause i woulda lost a ton of money. And lets be honest most guys on here that talk alot of stuff (Brettus) have asked dumber questions on the forums when they got started with the car.... im just glad i dont have to keep the car because i spent 30k brand new for it i only paid 5800 so it was good while it lasted

 

Doing the research is one thing - getting it all installed and working properly is another . Just sayin ....

 

Didn't feel like taking the time plus i was low on cash and im leaving for navy basic in a week so o well lol might buy another fc later down the road though

5-7k for a greddy? I didn't pay that soup to nuts and that counts the rebuild and shop labor for everything in between.

I love my greddy.

 

Greddy kit is garbage and the Renesis is garbage too. I don't know how you can get good results out of that.

 

Usually when people get positive results out of something that someone like yourself got poor results out of, its because they have some tools at their disposal that you probably didn't.

Knowledge
Comprehension
Luck

Just because you can't understand how to make something work, doesn't mean no one else can do it, either.

End result of this thread. Dipshit had a vacuum cap over the nipple on the oil filler tube. No place for the crank case to vent = oil through the turbo, intake, intercooler, etc.
