Hear a sound like a siren when accelerating.

When I am accelerating I hear a distant 'siren' sound. No, not the CHP chasing me - a 'whooing' sound that sounds like a distant ambulance. The first 2 or 3 times it caused me to start pulling over to let the 'ambulance' pass. My son even heard it and quickly cautioned me to pull to the right!
It just happens when i am accelerating.
Anyone else hear this?
Is my air-filter having a problem? Been like this since new in July.

Is it only at certain RPMs, like say ~8500-9000? Or is it whenEVER you're accelerating?

Ah, this can't be it, cuz it's just sooooo obvious, but at that rpm range, is it maybe the approaching-redline alarm that comes on @ 8500rpm?

Stereo's / Amp's and what not will produce a siren like sound when accelerating if they are not grounded properly. Obviously if your stereo was off this is irrelevant....

That's what I'm thinking, I've heard a few people complain about an alarm sound that turns out the be the redline warning buzzer.

I have had a similar experience on the first and only long trip I have taken with my 8 so far.

I was on the NYS thruway, so I was probably accelerating in 5th or 6th gear. I kept thinking their was a cop on my tail. I asked my friend who was with me if he heard it. He didn't.

It was kinder wierd but I figured it was just a characteristic trait of the rotary engine.

Sorry folks - I cracked the front 3/4 of my RX8 against an upright in a parking garage - been too p****d off w/myself to scan here for replies!! The hit was where the wheel arch, headlight and bumper meet - $1700 to fix!

Okay, the siren noise: in all gears in low revs, fades out as I move up the gears then returns. It goes away once the engine hits normal temps.

I have never heard a redline warning buzzer, so maybe I am hearing something that should be the warning buzzer but is not connected properly. ????
