sgt_slap_a_hoe, don't buy one from the stealership, get this one or a hi-flow cat. And yes fyi, the catalytic converter is licated on the mid-pipe, it's called the mid pipe because it's in between your header manifold (first exit from engine) and your exhaust or Catback, meaning after the cat. Don't mind the flamers, they are gay and we would probably be better off without them. Everyone needs to learn sometime, and it's best if you do learn so you don't get ripped off by some faggie flamer.
I'm not exacly sure what the limit is but there is defenately a warranty that covers it and is actually law here in canada. I would go to another dealership if I were you to get a second opinion. If you have other questions later in the future you can pm me. To ward off the flamers.

Let's use basic logic here for a minute.
Everyone knows your exhaust is basically some pipes.
Everyone knows your cat converters are in your exhaust.
Therefore, it is logical to conclude that, indeed, your cat converter is an exhaust related pipe. A simple search on google images for "rx8 catalytic converter" reveals the first 2 results as pictures of, surprise, a stock rx8 cat converter, which is clearly a long pipe.
This fails to take into account that the dealership likely showed you the defective cat, or at least should have (and if not, you should have asked).
Asking if "a cat is a pipe" is along the same lines of "is a wheel round". It's not exactly guarded or intricate knowledge.
Good luck with the sale/purchase, and don't drink and post.
