Oil cap stuck

hey all,

I checked my oil last night and wanted to top it off.

only problem was my oil cap was pretty much stuck. I tried tapping it with a hammer, using a rubber glove and sheer arm force.

I was finally able to get it off by using a vise grip.

there appeared to be a kind of brownish (like maple syrup) varnish/shelack type of sticky film around the plastic threads.

Is this something I should be worried about? is it worth it to get a billet oil cap instead?

Was it like a brown foamy substance? That is the remnants of your apex seals floating to the top of the oil.

Completely normal.

(that was a j/k, BTW. Are you staying it was something like glue??)

nah not like glue. It looked like I'd laid a coat of varnish on the inside threads of the oil cap. I dissolved some of it with wd40 and it felt tacky to the touch

That is what I think alot of people call carbon deposits. Interesting that it would be all the way up there.

I wouldn't think that for the specific issue, you should worry about it. I mean, it is just a filler cap. Clean it off and move on.

You might, just might, want to do a search on "seafoam."
