1200 seems high even if they're painting the nose and the trunk instead of blending

nose is not an issue. this is trunk only. this is to remove my spoiler and the mazda, rx8, and mazda logo. you have to fill the holes and then repaint&blend the trunk.

this is a top-notch body shop. i've seen their work, you cannot tell what they fix. it looks completely factory. im not a complete noob when it comes to body work either.

im not getting it done, i'll just swap trunks with someone that doesnt have a spoiler, then paint the emblems with touchup paint.

Did mine w/touch up paint and it came out well. But once winter set in it didn't do so well. I'm not sure if that was b/c I didn't do a good enough job sanding it, or b/c it was auto paint on plastic, or a combination of the 2.

I pulled the rx-8 (no holes under it) and left the M badge. But mine is black, which was much easier to match when I repainted it this year w/gloss black plastic spray paint & spray clear coat.

Sometimes you can't even see the damn thing, which is entirely the point, right? lol.

wouldn't it be cheaper to order a new OEM trunk from mazda and just get it painted?

no, that's not too high - i just got a quote for $500-700 but i know the guy. he called around and got estimates from $1100-1500. i mean, it's not worth paying, but it's not "high". the key difference is just debadging vs debadging AND removing the spoiler and filling those holes too. they're about 3 or 4 times the size of the badge holes, and they're are six of them, plus the possible scrapes from the stock spoiler. i'm looking into getting some plugs and getting the scrapes buffed out to save the money for a cf trunk in the future...
