High Flow Used Cat Assessment

First of all I would like to ask if the purchase of a used high flow cat is a purchase that someone should avoid?

In the event that someone decides to buy a used high flow cat what are the points that should be given extra attention? Just shaking the high flow cat and not hearing any sounds plus visual inspect if inside is broken WILL it cover everything concerning checking?

Is it any issue that cannot be checked whatsoever in the used Catalyst ?

Thanks

The problem is that they are always less than 100%.......

They start off with less surface area than stock - to achieve the 'free-flow' effect, then they get subjected to more heat than the stock one would see, due to being used aggressively.

They may not pass an EPA test, or even the dealership test, and be half used-up, but still not trigger a CEL.

Overall, a bad 'investment'......

Hmm. Well, i would say it is all relative to how many miles the cat has been used as well as the application it was used on (FI, stock, tracked). Personally, i have the RP Supercat and have been running it for almost 13k miles and it is working great. No CEL's. Pass all emissions testing. Couldnt be happier. Just know that i have mainly bolt-ons, run the juice at least weekly, and dont track it, so....

Either way if you get a used one be sure you are getting a helluva deal so if it craps out on you soon afterwards ur not out all that much.
