There are several reasons why equal length runners are best. Although not commonly implemented, careful attention should be placed to this area of your setup. Some of you hit some key points as to why but more than this is the fact that a 1000 dollar or less item can ruin a good turbo,or engine for that matter (much more expensive), and is a factor you guys are forgetting.it would suck to know down the line careful planning could have given you many more miles out of an engine that requires plenty of attention as is the rotary.. These engine produce hotter exhaust gases than piston, and as such, even material quality is a great safety net. Now, don't get me wrong there are design limitations like engine bay space and even cost so if done otherwise it is up to each person. Great builds guys I love seeing the pictures and reading of the efforts made to make power :-)

Sometimes going back to your roots can enlighten your present.... Everyone will always be a noob.

By the way team, I would love to read your 2 cents on this. It could be of great benefit to Arca but also every

Equal length runners aren't super important in a twin scroll rotary application and I certainly won't destroy my turbo or engine by using a non-equal length manifold. If you really believe that then I doubt there is much I can learn from you.

If you guys want to argue about this start your own thread.

Arca ... how much benefit do you get from a twin scroll turbo ?

I know earlier spooling but by how many rpm ? Also , do you get any benefits at maximum boost/peak power ?

Actually awhile back Mazda did a technical paper on it. Granted the technology now is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was but it's interesting anyways. With everything identical besides changing to twin scroll manifold and turbine housing, the turbo spooled 1000RPM sooner and gained 5% more power on the top end. Not to mention much better transient response.

Wow ..... that's impressive !

It is the Elite Carbon wing with swan neck chassis mounts. It's available for $2,200 but you have to email them to order it.

I sent in specs for everything except the wing itself and they worked with me to build it, right now it's a one off but if you asked I'm sure they could make another one.

A couple things to consider, the positioning of the wing makes it illegal for some sanctioning bodies. It extends almost 14" rearwards of the back of the car. Also I'm not done mounting it, due to how laid back the mounts are the side to side movement is a little excessive, doing a cable X or some other type of support between the uprights is necessary. It's not a bolt in and go kit, it requires a little bit of work to get it installed properly.

just curious why you think that extreme of a solution is necessary?

It's just because of the shape of the mounts and how they are laid back so far, side to side play applies a twisting force instead of just lateral force to the lower part of the uprights. It's not terrible but if it were to start oscillating at a certain frequency it would get out of hand.

Not the bandaid solution, I'm talking about your decision to purchase and mount it like that to start.

The positioning is for better leverage so it utilizes the downforce created more effectively, and this article explains the swan neck mounts.

I understand what it accomplishes, not why you think it was necessary to take it to that extent.

I took it to that extent because of what it accomplishes. Just trying something that at the time was out of the ordinary for a time attack car, but now there are plenty of cars running at time attack events with those swan neck APR wings. I don't know what else to tell you besides that I thought it would perform better than a traditionally mounted wing and that I just wanted to try it.

Ok, wasn't sure if any quantitative analysis was done. Carry on ...

It will need more than cables to be stable. Struts or thicker/more rigid mounts are necessary.

Can you say anything now?

I'm actually going through this myself, my RX8 will be running MoTeC but I'm considering options incase the ECU can't run the EPS; by building a custom controller and implementing the CANbus messages myself. I have the hardware and understand the software enough to do it, I just need the details on the data the stock PCM sends that the EPS controller uses to control the assist.

How are you controlling the EPS?

Nope, been waiting six months for an oil pan.

I put this way down here so 9k would get excited, then find out it's not from RX8Performance.

That sucks to hear. Well, hopefully after all that wait you then don't have to cut it up to get it to fit like we had too on the RX8performance oil pan.

Good luck.

^^^you had to do it once three years ago due to a minor misfabrication error. Plenty since have been bought and installed without issue.

Earlier in the thread it stated "stock oil pan". I assume this changed since then.

Yeah I was going to use a stock one for now but I saw something that I just had to have and bought on a whim. CNC flange, CNC press braked and has a really nice trap door and baffle system. Also super strong to deal with engine flex, no oil pan brake required. etc etc.

Should be done soon I'm hoping. I've been acquiring tons of other stuff for this build as well, just not really interested in posting about it until I'm actually moving forward on it again.

I thought about using oil pan to help with engine flex too but would it work when you have to have a layer of silicone between the flanges? just wanted to hear your thoughts...
