I'm brand new to this forum and have recently purchased a 04 rx8.
Anyone have any ideas as to the possibilities of cleaning a vdi actuator instead of replacing it? The car runs a little rough with a dramatic loss of power at acceleration.
Would appreciate any input anyone wants to throw out there.

Removing it could easily allow you to clean it and then put it back.



What reasoning / testing are you using to conclude that it's your VDI causing the problem?

 

Hey. My mechanic got the code P0076 and said I needed VDI Actuator. I am having trouble trying to track one down. Any suggestions will help. They have the car running but said it will act up again. unsettling..I live in the Caribbean and we need to order most things as the supply here is limited.

 

P0076 is more commonly caused by the solenoid failing not the actual valve, the solenoid pack is located around the back of the upper intake manifold, connected to the same piece as the oil filler neck.

There are 3 connectors there, White,Black,Blue. The VDI Solenoid is the black plug, I believe its a 20-30 dollar part.

I don't think your VDI is causing slow acceleration or causing it to run rough.
You've likely got other issues as well.

The VDI doesn't engage until 7250 rpm (normally closed, opens at 7200rpm)

All it is basically is a valve to allow dynamic super charging.
VDI = Variable Dynamic Intake
