I have some air in my coolant. How can / where can I access the radiator cap to let the car run and attempt to bleed out the system? Can I access it from the top or underneath the car?

Is there a real easy way to bleed the air?

 

Run the car with the heater on high for about 10 minutes, then let the car cool down, open the cap, and re-check your coolant level. Add more coolant, install cap, and repeat until there is no change in coolant level from running the heater. And yes, you access the radiator cap from the top..... underneath the car is the radiator drain plug.

 

Where is the radiator cap located at from the top. I looked in there and couldn't see it. Do I have to remove anything to get at it?

 

open hood, look in front of battery at the front (closest to you) left compartment of the engine bay. There is a cap that says FL22 on it...that

edit: and just incase it doesn't say FL22 on it, its the only cap thats in that area anyway so you really cant miss it

 

just how exactly did you determine that there is air in your coolant system ........................ ?

 

I have two BMW's both had a similar sounds as well. Purged them of air and they were fine. It sounds like a swooshing sound. Happened after topping off with coolant so I assume that is what it is. Whatever if it doesn't get rid of it I will look somewhere else.

I need to get my waterpump replaced anyways so it could be that too. The only cap that I see is the resevior cap. Is that what your referring to?

Yep, the sounds of air pocket heard behind the dash. I replaced my radiator and flushed the system in winter two years ago, had the swooshing problem for a few months and it cleared itself up after six months. I didn't know how to flush out the air so I drove it hard a few times a week to burp the car, some fluid will splash on the engine cover so refill it up to the 'full' line.

 

The standard way to burp air bubbles is to lift the front of the car as high as possible and run it to push the bubbles into the overflow
