PPort MSP

Soon we should figure out the max rwhp a MSP block will handle with stock exhaust port locations on Jamaal's car. Then its onto this

Oh my! Are you running this alongside the stock sideports?

I'd really like to see a system where the engine used sideports under say 4k rpm, and then opened up Pports for intake and exhaust, kinda like a semi pp job.. ala Defind's 430rwhp 20b. we really need a new terminology, as we have pports, semi p ports(just smaller version of a pport) and then the on/off pport designed to keep low end/idle/drivability, and deliver the upper end HP.

Nice work. It seems it is true, given enough time people will figure out how to get 400+ out of a renny.

Yes these are run along side the stock exhaust sideports. Also note the intake does not have to be done along with the exhaust. So for the turbo cars, you can run OEM intakes, side exhaust ports plus these mini Pport exhaust sleeves. Shouldn't be a problem exceeding 500+rwhp now.

Hey hey. Looking foward to this one. Any reason why you went with smaller perip exhaust?

Better for Daily Driving I'm assuming?

I'm curious as to how oil consumption and MPG's are going to be affected though... mainly out of curiousity as mine isn't my daily driver anymore but smaller affects on both would be desireable..

Chances are this will not work with my low mount kit anyway

Why not just use GSL-SE rotor hopusings, also I was talking to Carlos Lopez of CLR Motorsports and he said it could work with FI but wouldnt work well with N/A

eric --maybe needs more apex seal support at that level of hp?
Are yall planning on keeping the high compression rotors with this mini PP build?

this ought to be interesting! Elliot, i'm curious as to how close the exhaust port timings are. can you divulge that information?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I dont think it's really a question of reliability vs efficiency ... very rarely do you find periph port street engines due to fuel economy.

Im not completely familiar with all of the mechanics behind everything but I do a lot of reading. A setup like this has proved to be quite efficient from Mazdatrix but they used the GSL-SE housings I believe. That was also a car built for racing purposes, I believe it dyno'ed 400+ whp but I could be wrong. If its reliable this would be a answer to getting HP out the Renny.

IMO I dont like the fact of running High Compression Rotors the Renesis has on a boosted application, but then theres debates with this, I just dont like the smaller margin for error on a High Comp motor. Im actually seriously thinking about selling the 8 for a RX7, I want some more power now, but if this shows worthy i might reconsider.

What you mean rarely periph port on the street? Isnt All the RX7's periph ports?

People correct me if im wrong on any of this, Its just what I have read on here and on rx7club. flame suit on! lol

i've noticed that some people seem to get confused with the term peripheral port and what we all usually refer to peripheral port engines. so here goes:

for our purposes peripheral just refers to ports located directly in the rotor housing, giving intake and exhaust charges a direct shot at the rotor. therefore a peripheral port engine refers to one that has both intakes and exhausts in the rotor housing.

ALL pre-Rx-8 production rotaries had peripheral exhaust ports, but side intake ports. the only possible exception (and i have yet to confirm this with a credible source) might be some of the earlier 10A engines (Cosmo 110, R100 and Rx-3) which i recall reading somewhere had small peripheral intake ports. the one 10A engine that i have seen with my own two eyes had side intake ports though.

peripheral intake ports are what are rarely used on the streets, and like i said before, never came in production rotary vehicles. they are race engines and while some people have successfully tamed them with or without modern engine management, they are generally going to be obnoxiously loud, gas-guzzling animals.

i hope this helps some.

Okay I remember reading this in Street Rotary. So a completely Peripheral port engine is intake and exhaust. I think what Elliot is doing here is going to be only exhaust peripheral ports. The side intake ports provide more than enough flow, the restriction is in the side exhaust ports.
