Actually, the CX-7 is not marketed as an SUV. Mazda really wants buyers to accept it as a new kind thing, despite the fact that it is the epitome of SUV.
Since it is already turbocharged, I'm not so sure that our idea of what "MazdaSpeed" means is in sync with what Mazda believes it means.
I think it is safe to say that the "Speed" part is not directly correlated to "power".

Just so everyone else knows what Bernie is talking about (that's rare!!!) at the banquet, Ajax won a raffle prize. On his way up to the stage Bernie referred to him as rotarygod to see if any snipers would take him out, sparing my life. None in sight apparently.

AHA! I suppose Ajax will say it was HIS ticket that won, even though we gave him our three cause we had to leave before the raffle. Yeah. Uh-huh.

Just for all of you people out there who don't like how much power the Renesis has, we have some numbers for you as to what Speedsource has gotten out of theirs and how they've done it. David Haskell is a very nice, smart guy and he answers any questions that you ask him which is damn cool! They have done nothing to the Renesis engine itself in terms of porting and are running the stock intake manifold. They have tried many things though and have probably built over 200 different engine combinations from the ground up just to see what works. Wow! They have the stock air filter box and paper air filter element. They have removed the VFAD duct and cut the opening larger to run direct ducting to the box from the front though. They have a single, straight through muffler and no cat. The engine is tuned with a Motec. AFR's are in the 13's. They also have a very light flywheel. They produce 260-265 crank horsepower and admitted that driveline losses are right around 12%. That's between 229-233 rwhp. Get tuning guys!

I have a couple of hundred pictures to load up so I'll start posting them soon. I have some video that I need to piece together of the race cars driving by too so when I get that edited together, I'll need someone to host it. That shouldn't be too hard to figure out though. Stay tuned. I'm getting on it.

I think that MazdaManiac is right about Mazdaspeed. The new JDM MPV has been remade as a "Zoom Zoom" vehicle... a sporty mini-van, if you will. It uses the same MZR DISI Turbo engine as the CX-7, has dual exhaust outlets, rides a bit lower and comes with large alloy wheels. Whether or not the handling is really sporty or not is another story, but it is at least trying to project that image.

260-265 crank, 229-230rwhp? Wow. No kidding about people needing to get tuning. That's awesome.

Their new 3 rotor car produces 420 hp and shifts at 8500 rpm. That's low for a peripheral port engine. They want to keep their engines alive for longer by keeping rpms down. Due to it's longer intake runners (15") it makes a little less power than the BK 3 rotor Courage but has a wider powerband.

260 crank hp.. wow... Mazda's tune crippled the RX-8... If they can solve emissions and unleash all of that 260hp... that'd be awesome and if they cant, I hope the aftermarket has a tuning solution for us soon! we can at least get it to 200whp easy. 12% is a pretty low drivetrain loss too. So now the truth is that 232hp is still overrated but the RX-8 is capable of a lot more.

Great news, seems like the Renesis has a lot of potential.

Does anyone remember the white supercharged car that Mazda built a couple of years ago? Ever wanted to see the setup? Here it is off the car!

Pic #1 is the roots supercharger hiding in a bag as seen from the front. Sorry I didn't get it out.

Pic #2 is the supercharger from the rear. You can still make out the inlet piping. It's done very nicely. Again sorry for no more detail. You had to be there!

Pic #3 is the intercooler setup. The oulet of the supercharger went straight into one tank. The outlet from the intercooler went straight into the intake manifold. It had as short a route for piping as you could get.

Pic #4 is the intake manifold wrapped up. It's done very nicely as well.

you mean working miracles with forced induction and the renesis? then yes i wouldnt mind seeing him walk on water, that would be a cool trick.

An even better trick would be giving your ole' buddy toxin440 (Jeff) a discount on the Type I when its released ^_^ hehehe I was that really cool guy you hung out at the last general house party you attended...... okay just kidding. But I have hung out with Brillo and he's hung out with you, so.... discount right :-D lol

hmmm, so they HAVE most of the engineering done for stuffing a SC on the renesis, who's to say maybe one of the beancounters got hit on the noggin one day and ok's it for production lol

I definitely pulled the manifold out of the bag!!! Awesome piece of work the way they adapted the thing.

Pic #1 is from the engine side. It shows the supercharger bypass valve.

Pic# 2 is looking into the manifold from the intercooler side. It is a plenum system. The new parts are all stainless steel.

Pic #3 shows just how much they had to cut on the stock manifold to get it all to work. There is about 5" removed from the stock lower manifold. They actually cut into the secondary port valve and them machined new flange that also had the rest of the secondary port valve machined back into it. After some very talented welding, it came out perfectly.

Pic #4 shows the weld job of the manifold to the new flange. It's more intensive than it looks.

Pic #5 is just another view back into the plenum.

They went to a lot of effort with this thing. Obviously the VDI valve is gone and with a supercharger you don't need it anyways. They kept the secondary port valve actuation and the auxiliary port valves so they still keep the advantages of the stock system. No compromise. That's how to do it!

I wish it had been a twin screw supercharger but that wouldn't be that hard to do.

That's your treat for the day!
