Steering Noise

New owner of 09 GT with 12.5K miles. Did oil change this weekend using guide on this site, and besides needing to lse 25 lbs to fit under the car easier, it went as advertised.

Been hearing a noise from front end when turning at low speeds (probably happening at higher speeds but can't hear it over road noise...). While I had it up on stands, I turned the wheel and there is a noise like metal on metal when turning steering wheel in both directions. If I had to describe the noise, it is similar to a brake pad rubbing on a rotor, but louder and is coming from under the front plastic cover underneath the car. Due to time constraints, I wasn't able to pull off the cover. From inside the car when driving, it sounds like a tire is rubbing the plastic wheel well liner on the passenger side. Going to take to dealer in near future, but wondering if anyone had an idea what it is. Steering rack, steering pump?

Also, any recommendations for dealers with good service in Hampton Roads, VA area?

Aight

I hear the same noise and I am 98% positive that it is suppose to do that. The steering column is electronic, unlike your last car. This noise we hear is the little motors/gears, someone help me out with the details, that are what move your suspension which move your wheels.

SpencerM1 - thanks for the reply. The noise sounds like metal rubbing on metal, or like metal being dragged across metal, but there is no difference in the effort to turn left or right and the amount of effort required to steer seems good as well. Understand the electric assisted steering but didn't expect that amount of noise when turing at low speeds (like leaving a parking spot, etc) or while turing the steering wheel with the car on jack stands.
