Battery failure
I recently bought a 09 R3 that was in a flood---low flood. It never reached the engine compartment or seats. It has 9K on it
I expected the battery to be dead but --- the battery cannot be recharged. It has a bad cell in it. Panasonic brand.

Yep, they are all Panasonic for the S2, same battery used in the CX-9 and CX-7.
These are a larger battery than the original RX-8 there is virtually no gap for the so called ventilation, (Mazda use the original 2004 Battery Box in 09's) about a 3 mil GAP on the sides and next to nothing end to end.
You have to regularly check the battery cells for fluid, particularly the last 3 (close to dash), these dry out quicker form all the engine heat, particularly in summer.
Once the plates (lead) are exposed to fresh air your Battery life can/will be shortened.
