I have a problem with my 2009 R3 RX-8 with the stock Bose audio system.

Here is the problem:

I will be driving my car and need to use full throttle...
My problem is that sometimes my car will make a static noise through what sounds like all the speakers even if the audio system is switched off when im around 7500-9000 RPMs.
Its pretty loud and is not just a slight hiss. I have noticed it for a while.
I don't want to take it to Mazda only to be told well its not covered by warranty because I should not be driving the car at full throttle or whatever other garbage reason they can come u with for not covering it.

Notes:

It does not do this below 7500 RPM.
My 09 RX-8 is pretty much stock except for a K&N air filter.
I have in no way modified my audio system or electrical system.
I used to have an 04 GT RX-8 and an 06 Touring RX-8 model so I know pretty much whats ok for these cars and whats not.

Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I also read some people posting that they hear what sounds like the engine coming through the speakers at high RPM's on older models, my car is a series II and the noise does not sound like the engine. Again thanks for reading.

Lets see how much hell they give me to replace this under warranty.
They gave me sh*t for a melted open sun visor.
And they broke off my side skirt by lifting my car for an oil change improperly, I am not sure these people are "intelligent life forms"

 

I'm starting to assume the same at my local dealer.... Roger Beasley is starting to become something for me to poop on.

 

Hum but the Series 2 waterpump is supposed to have better flow and less high rpm cavitation. Is your coolant lvl full? Also is the uh AC drain working? On that video guy said 2006 so that a diff water pump .. Side note. The old water pumps are lame at high rpm.

 

mine makes the same sound what so ever.

 

Search for MIAC. Too much coolant flow in heater core. Had the "orifice" (restrictor valve) installed in my 2009 R3, and it fixed the problem right away. Engine still running at same temperature.

 

hmm I don't like the sound of restrict in the same sentence as coolant... but hey thats just me.

 

As long as the temp gage is still were it should be, shouldn't be a problem. If it's a track car, then I would keep an eye on the temp gage more religiously. But I was just too annoyed with the MIAC sound.
And, when you consider that when an 8 owner wants it installed, Mazda does it under warranty, and still covers the engine for 8 years/100k milles, they seem to trust it. I will sleep soundly...

 

temp gauge is a dummy gauge though... It shows cold normal and fubar.

 

Mine is quite precise, and where the orifice is installed, it only affects coolant flow through the heater core. So not an issue.

 

Well if you ever overheat you'll see what I'm talking about. It looks accurate but its really not. by the time it gets into overheat area your engine is fubar.

However with the 09 you have a more efficiently designed water pump that doesn't cavitate after 6-7k, so I'll leave you alone on this one.

It's not the speakers. It sounds like it, but it's the coolant. A gounding problem makes more of a feedback sound. And there is no speaker in that area. They are in the center of the dash and in the doors. Install the orifice and the sound will go away.

 

So I took my car to Oak Tree Mazda in SanJose, CA today and they told me that that the orifice could not be installed and that Mazda does not warrent this as a way to fix the car. What the heck?

 

Complain to the sales director about the bad service you have recieved. If that has already been done, to no avail,, e-mail Mazda USA Headquarters about the bad service that dealer has given you. They (Mazda, not dealers) know about the problem, and the fix. Mine was done under warranty, no problem. I don't see why it wouldn't be done for someone else. I had to bring all the info to my dealer, who was pissed off at Mazda for not giving him the info in the first place. I am starting to think I have a great dealer who cares about repeat business... Good luck with yours...

 

The speaker buzz and water bubbles (MIAC) are completely different sounds.

I suggest you go see an old dog and have him teach you something if you can not distingush the difference.

If it is the speaker that check your battery connection as you have a bad ground somewhere in the system.

You know us old dogs are going out to pasture so you better find one now and learn true mechanics.
