Any thoughts on the Royal Purple HP-2C oil as an additive? I switched from Idemitsu to this Royal Purple for an additive just this year. RP's FAQ discusses this and recommends this oil for cars that still have the OEM oil injection system, and this oil is a heck of a lot easier to get than Idemitsu.

I'm also debating if I should change from 5W-30 to a slightly heavier oil. My car is not driven in the winter, but in early spring and late fall it is sometimes driven in temperatures near or even slightly below freezing (in the early morning before the weather warms up).

I think Racing Beat likes the RP 2C so that should say something. For me I can get the Idemitsu by the case via the internet cheapest of anything so thats what Im at using at the moment.

Link? My exhaust smells like *** when my engine is cold; I'd rather use 2-cycle oil to feed the metering pump, if possible.

My dad blew the engine on his car back in the 80's, when synthetic oil was *really* rare. He used Mobil 1. The oil came out brown and the mechanic was amazed. Is synthetic necessary? No. Is it a good idea? Yes. Much like brushing your teeth, it prevents problems later on.

So whats the deal? Just pouring it in before/after I get gas doesn't seem like it would be effective; the car has saddle tanks anyway. Filling up from 5 gallon cans doesnt seem practical either.
How does everyone else do it?
Cars with fuel injection constantly circulate the fuel in the tank, so anything you put in the tank will get mixed after a few minutes of driving. The fuel pump delivers far more pressure than necessary, and the fuel injector rail has a pressure-control valve that dumps excess pressure by letting fuel circulate back to the gas tank.

Unfortunately there isn't one available currently. The OMP system is different on the series 2 cars - there are 2 pumps that sit on top of the motor and are fed oil from a different location than the old-style from Series 1 cars. Mazda did this because there are some benefits to the electronic system (I think it is primarily for better lubrication on start up, primarily).

The bottom line, there isn't an adapter currently available for Series 2 8s. Sohn makes the adapters for all the previous RXes http://www.rotaryaviation.com/oil_injector_pump_adaptors.htm. I'm waiting for my warranty to expire, but after that I sure would love to see something made too!
