Good to know.

I may add one to my son's MSpeed 3. Gotta think about turbo back pressure thought. Amazing find though. I was miserable. This makes the XS exhaust a hell of a buy.

I have a HKS single and I love it for now. I am sure that when I go to a catless midpipe, it will be too loud. In order to have the least possible restriction, what about using a moroso auger resonator? It is a standalone unit rather than an insert and it is 4" around with connections for 3" pipe.

YoursTruely, how is the volume at WOT and the drone during highway cruising? I'm thinking of the HKS single outlet paired with stock cat and stock header.

Also, what about using a standard 4" exhaust tip silencer insert on the HKS? Could be a really cheap, easy, and reversible noise suppressor.

It makes a good bit of noise at WOT, but I really like it. On the highway, I can only hear it clearly when going up hills, but the tone doesn't resonate with the cabin so it is easy to ignore. The radio masks it at volume setting 22. If I am near large buildings, walls, or a bridge, WOT is loud enough to echo back. I autocross and it is below 96db at WOT from 50 feet.

I am very happy with this exhaust. If it was any quieter, I would be disappointed.

This my custom 3" free flow setup . Really like the noise level and tone . No drone at all either .
There are 2x450 mufflers . One is perforated tube type and the other has spiral tabs in the airflow.

So I have a racing beat mid pipe with no resonators (cheap as free!) and was thinking of putting a resonator on it but this seems much easier over all, question is if it was put in the rear section of the mid pipe do you think i would be in for trouble?

Still running the stock cat back if it means anything.

Do you feel it would be feasible to use a standard 4" exhaust silencer insert on the HKS? Could be a really cheap, easy, and reversible noise suppressor.

Thanks for your feedback on the volume!

A silencer like that would work at the cost of a couple horsepower, but nothing too noticeable. The only problem is that the tip is not 4". I bought my hks used and it didn't come with the original adjustable tip, so I had to make my own. I bought a piece of bevel cut 4" exhaust pipe and drilled it to fit the mounting holes on the hks. The 4" pipe is bigger than the outside of the tip and it would rattle badly if it didn't have both bolts installed.

I can hear my radio at level 10 cruising 70mph with windows up... you say you need your radio at level 22?!?! maybe this exhaust isn't for me!

Interested reads on the removable tip silencers. I'd plan on daily driving with it in, then remove for autocross and HPDE.

Looks like the HKS hi power has one straight section just before the muffler and one somewhat mid-pipe (would potentially requiring cutting, inserting, and re-welding).

Well, I have a series 2, so the levels may mean something different than your series 1. Also, Pilot Supersports are very loud on my local highway and I like really chill music. Google Bon Iver and the Fleet Foxes.

I got the HKS hi-power installed. It does drone a bit from 2500-3000 rpms (~50-60mph), but 65mph+ it quiets down. overall volume with stock header and cat is very reasonable. I feel it's the perfect volume for track/autocross, and it's livable for everyday use (I am sound sensitive and I find it mostly pleasant). it has nice burbles on deceleration and loud pops during some 9,000 rpm shifts at the track. fitment was great, and it's light and looks nice. perfect for an enthusiast prioritizing performance and track use.

UPDATE: with the RB dual resonated midpipe V2, it sounds even better. not any louder, just a sharper, more wicked tone.
