Intake manifold valve stuck closed
Hello all,
I was do a little preventative maintenance and caused myself some trouble.
My 2010 has the following codes:
P2071 Intake manifold (IMT) valve stuck closed bank 1a
P0171 System too lean bank 1
P0300 Random multiple misfire detected
I had the UIM off to replace a coolant hose and took out the SSV for cleaning.
I’m looking right now for where the IMT is located.
Appreciate any supplemental advice while I hunt for more information about the IMT.
Thanks.

Well if I gave a crap about my post count this would be an effective option - answering my own questions.
looks like I’m taking the SSV back out to find out what I did wrong.

Naked photo SSV
Hello again
is there something at the back of this “tube” that keys in the rear pivot of the SSV? I got it fairly clean but, as you can see, didn’t reach the back.
I’m wondering if I pinched the assembly when tightening the bolts.
The vacuum valve moves freely out of the car.
Time for bed now.

you have to get that cleaned out because the back end of the SSV is a tight fit to that back surface. You also have to get the bushing hole cleaned out at the far end and some grease swabbed around in it before reinserting it.
The only other possibility is if it was dropped or bent somehow because it bends easier than you might think, which would then cause it to bind up. I tried to re-stake a loose actuator control arm (the cause of the dreaded ticking noise issue) on one and the hammer force of doing that bent it and caused this very problem. No choice but to buy a new replacement assembly then.

Will do - it would be quite a step backwards to clean that area up only to send a big carbon chunk downstream for an apex seal to encounter.
Thanks for the reminder.

IMT / SSV code gone
Probable cause for the codes was a pinched gasket. The holes seem offset if the gasket is flipped. Once I got the SSV out and cleaned the chamber in which it resides I noticed the edge of the gasket was folded.
Moves very smoothly now.
Compression test was done in June the week before I purchased the car. Will look into a repeat soon. I figured this would be an annual event since the numbers were reasonable but, not great.
Thanks again for your advice.

The benefits of getting older are increasing. I missed seeing this detail since I get fed up with having to put my readers on and off. Great long range vision. Not so good anymore close up. I need old man glasses chain to hang my glasses from.
