Yeah, and what would you need a higher rated pump for on an NA RX-8?

OP, so almost 2 months later, have you actually replace the fuel pump as Mazda (Dealer) suggested?
Obviously Soc Filter was not blocked.

Bigger isn't always better, correct; however, it was cheaper and more readily available, while (supposedly) being a better product.
And as for the second question, until this week, I've been a father, full-time undergrad senior (working on a Capstone Project and Research), and ROTC Cadet...now I'm just a dad and Reserve Officer, so I had some time. What I did accomplish in those two months was send it back to Mazda to replace my catalytic converter (under warranty) and diagnose the car completely (for free), after a bunch of phone calls and arguing.
In short, yes, I finally got around to it.
