PA Clutch Pedal Noise

The clutch pedal in my Series II has an intermittent click or pop when depressing the pedal. The noise is very intermittent, happening say once in a couple of hundred cycles, which makes troubleshooting almost impossible. It feels like the noise is coming from the pedal itself (i.e., the foot part) but when examining the pedal it feels very solid with nothing obvious that could cause the noise.. Any ideas on what the source of this noise might be would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the response Red! That makes sense based on the feel of the click/pop. It might be hanging up momentarily and then releasing. I'll have a look.

I checked out the clutch pedal spring but could not see any obvious reason the spring would make the click/pop sound. I did find that someone had previously coated the spring coils with grease. Apparently the previous owner had the same popping sound and decided that was the solution. I cleaned up the old grease and applied some new grease to the spring coils and I also sprayed some white lithium grease into the 3 pivot points of the spring. I do believe that the spring is the source of the noise. Time will tell if this solves the problem.
