2010 R3 Manual Transmission notchy
For some time my 2010 45,000m R3's manual transmission has been very notchy particularly in the lower 4 gears. It's much worse when trying fast gear changes and a little worse when cold. Sometimes when cold it strongly resists going into first despite double declutching and lots of stick waggling, only slotting home after I put it in another gear first. For the moment I'm living with it as I rarely drive without my disabled wife who can't tolerate fast driving.
As it's notchy in more than one gear I doubt that there's a synchro issue. I've tried several premium transmission oils without much, if any, difference. The clutch seems to be disengaging OK and I can't see anything wrong with the pedal.
All I can think of is that enthusiastic gear changes on track days have somehow bent the selection mechanism.
I have a copy of Mazda's P66M-D workshop manual but have no experience with transmissions and I have no SSTs. She's my only car so I don't want to risk her being off the road for long, leaving me having to get a replacement transmission (say $1300 here in the UK + $500 for a new clutch as necessary), swapping over and seeing what I can do with mine.
Please give me the benefit of your opinions. TIA.
