Walbro gss342 fuel pump too big to fit in housing ?

So the Walbro GSS340, GSS341 and GSS342 are all supposed to be the same with the exception being the location of the strainer attach point. I ordered the 342 , which matches the strainer with that of the OEM pump, but the pump seems to be too “fat” and too “tall” to fit in the housing. I could probably force it in there, but it still seems like it would be to long or “tall” for the strainer assembly to snap on and everything fit into the housing.
Can anyone who has experience with this pump let me know what I need to do ? Modify the filter housing ? Stuff it and go with it ? Is it the wrong pump ?

please don’t make multiple threads/posts on the same subject, thank you.

the OE pump is a Denso 65C

you can order the Deatschwerks DW65C 265LPH pump instead.
