For anyone still tuned in to our regularly scheduled programming...

I posted this before elsewhere. It is not meant to be a cause/effect case, just another data point that bears consideration.

Radiator sizes in sq. inch.

RX8 359
FB 379
FC 374
FD 297 (!)
S2000 383
86 TWINS 357
PRIUS 343

I cant find the estimate right now of how much more heat a Wankel puts into the cooling system vs piston engine of similar power. But, it is more, a figure I had run across years ago, maybe in some Mazda lit when I had my RX7. Maybe someone has that figure and can chime in.

It was a significant number. So, even with the 86 having a similar size radiator, and (stock) dyno performance, the RX8 should be markedly larger just because of the engine type. Add in the airflow problems of the chassis, and you can see on paper (screen) what I am talking about.

The FB, which makes less than half the power of the RX8, gets a bigger radiator, in a chassis that flows air in and out better.

The 2015 Prius, with 134hp, has a radiator not much smaller than the rx8. And, better airflow.

Pardon my ignorance, RX8 is my first car and I knew nothing about cars before this, so I started building knowledge from scratch, this is just my observation.
Cooling mods I had before AEM and vented hoods : Mishimoto rad (Don't recommend), Mazmart thermostat (factory one is very old)+WP, LRB undertray, heater core orifice and the forum's DIY hood vent mod.
I believe that our car has terrible airflow after the radiator, this is very signficant (with the high pressure area of the rad is completely sealed ) on highway when crusing, I always had difficulty maintain 65+MPH during 90+F during summer, the coolant temp will creep up until I have to back off, before it reaches equilibrium(before 220) to 55 or lower. When I send it too hard In the worst case I had to turn the heater on to full blast.
But when it's 90+F or even 100F outside, stop and go traffic or 30MPH in town driving with AC on doesn't seem to be problematic, I set my fan at 93C, and that's as high as it goes.
The battery and airbox and their trays block air exit the radiator and it seems that the side grill/vent isn't venting too much air when you put your hands around.
After switching to AEM intake (stock air box tray deleted)+ vented hood ,the cooling issue was immediately alleviaed, there was a massive drop in coolant temp and heat wave can be seen pouring out the vents.

And FWIW the Z4 and 2020 Supra dyno stock at about 350hp, and have 3 factory radiators for engine cooling alone. The pic shows the heat exch system for the intercooler also.
There's likely good airflow management also- all the late BMWs I have owned/ worked on seem to be dialed in that regard.

Main 472
Aux 169+169

Total 810 sq in.

Curious:
With those mods, will the car maintain thermostat temp at 100 degrees ambient?

In my case the car is unable to maintain t-stat temp when it’s 100 outside, IIRC when it’s 100 outside the, cursing 70 with AC on it was around 200f and it cools off fairly quickly.
I attribute that to subpar airflow due to hood vent size and subpar radiator. If I have larger vents and better radiator it might be able to.

because just like Kevin you don’t understand what’s really occurring.

but don’t expect me to cast the pearls out here for trampling … there’s no greater waste than having a hopeful expectation from either dogs or hogs.

just as the one who revealed such wisdom; there were those who mocked and sought to do away with him to preserve their own mistruth and false position that he spoke against. His words are not any more known or perceived by them than his voice; not then, neither now.

Team,

Instead of just telling us all what you know and what we don't, you spend time on these foolish posts that only please yourself.

I am not a dullard, and I don't have the time to try to figure out your meaning. I have other things to do.

When your Dr. Jekyll comes out I might respond. My Hyde will get ignored, however.

I really wish you would stop this, and contribute in the best way possible.

This forum is littered with hundreds, and maybe thousands, of your masturbatory posts.

Team,

I do have litle idea of what's going on. As I have stated I am ignorant.
There are a lot of information on this forum that I have abosorbed and have tried. Some maybe working, some may not. I get it that you are tired of posting the same thing over and over again but you probably posted them somewhere that I haven't discover yet.
'
But still, I have no idea what you are trying to say since you are not saying it.

Are you trying to say that the passenger side shouldn't be sealed for lower engine compartment temp and coolant temp like Steve Dallas said? Either way I discover that has no impact on my ECT But I should re-word them, instead of being completely sealed there are minor gaps.

Are you also trying to say that a bigger front grill area is beneficial to cooling?

^^none of those comments have anything to do with you; pm me if you want

————————-

as far as debasing or unflattering commentary and other such worldly kindling stubble goes; it’s just more of the same untruth. Over the course of 17 years I have tens of thousands of posts on this forum. The value of which belongs to the mind’s eye of each and every beholder.

A blind Edomite man claims he sees nothing; but wisdom belongs to the man who can know and perceive the truth which others have not been gifted the capacity of. Such a man has been truly blessed from the highest power above all others. What that power opens; no man can close, and what that power closes; as sad as it may be, no man can open.
