Will my Z wheels fit my RX8?

I have a set of 5zigen FN01R-C wheels that I used to use with my Z on occasion. I now want to use them on my RX8. They are 17 x 8. Two of them have a 35mm offset. Two of them have a 25mm offset. The bolt pattern is the same as the RX8.

My questions:

1) I'm guessing that a 35mm offset on an 8 inch wheel is enough, correct? The stock offset for an 18 x 8 inch wheels is 50mm. That's only about a half inch difference.

2) Will I need a 10mm spacer for the two wheels that have a 25mm offset?

3) Do I need to get new hubcentric rings. I don't know if they fit yet. If they don't, should I just toss them, and install the wheels without any hubcentric rings?

4) I have a set of lug nuts that I bought with the wheels. Any ideas if they are the same thread pattern?

Thanks for the help.

I saw pics of Carter Thompson in the RX-8, I would guess right after he bought it, with his 18" 350Z wheels on it.

Send a PM to: tomsn16 they should be able to help you.

Why do you want to go from an 18x8 to a 17x8?
As for a wheel spacer NO. Unless you want to make those 25's into 15 offset. Or the 35's into a 25 offset.
The smaller the offset number the farther the outside lip moves outward from center.
I haven't heard of anybody using a 25 offset on the RX-8.
Lug nut thread is 12x1.50. If that is what Nissan uses then they will work. You could search the web for the thread pattern Nissan uses.

my Nissan 240SX has M12x1.25 lugs, so i don't think they will work. this weekend, for the hell of it i tried putting my OEM RX8 wheels on my 240 only to find out the bore size on the wheels were not big enough. most likely you'll have to use a hub centering ring. as for the offset, i'm running 19x8" +35 on my fronts and they look fine. with a 17" wheel though you might have some brake clearance problems. hope this may answer some of your questions.

5Zigen FN01RC:

17x8.0 +25 and +35

In all honesty I'd suggest selling them but if you need the info here you go.

I do believe you can make this fit front and rear. Unless you roll the rear fenders you might have more success running the +25 up front and the +35 in the rear.

Your tire size options would be 245/45/17 or 225/50/17. I'd run the same sizes front and rear as well.

oh boltpattern is same.

Since they are FN's they are a 73mm centerbore.

Ideally you would want to get hubrings in the dims of 73x67.1, I have these in stock.

Lugnuts, well you can use the stock ones. They are a cone seat and will work.

12x1.50 = MAZDA
12x1.25 = NISSAN, arbitrary since we don't have nissan lugstuds

Centerbores:

MAZDA RX8 = 67.1
NISSAN Z33 = 66.1

If you want to use OEM Nissan wheels on a RX8 you would need to bore them out 1mm in diameter. FYI.....

RULES OF THUMB:

THE CLOSER THE OFFSET IS TO ZERO, THE MORE THE WHEEL STICKS OUTSIDE FENDER.

THE HIGHER THE OFFSET, THE WHEEL IS PUSHED FARTHER INTO THE FENDER.

SPACERS ARE A "NEGATIVE OFFSET"

i.e.

17x8.0 +25, NOW ADD 25MM SPACER = 17X8.0 +0 it sticking out way far.....

SPACERS ONLY WORK IF THE WHEEL IS TOOOO SUNK........ IN ORDER TO CREATE A MORE NEGATIVE OFFSET.

I'm putting all this info here whether it applies or not because I can see how this can get lost in translation.

It's all here, hopefully people can find this info with key words.

Thanks for playin.....

yeah, they'll fit... the 350Z Touring wheels fit on the 300Z and so do the RX-8's so i wouldn't see a problem. Just a word to the wise about Nissan wheels, Nissan manufactures every part of their Z car to optimize performance (even the wheels) so putting them on a different car may have the reverse effect... or it could work to your benefit, and hey... if you can find a set of cobra R wheels from ford they will alsofit, (if your into the 5 spoke look) i think that is what i am going to do if i dont paint my stockers black and get the faces chromed

He has 5Zigen wheels so it's a totally different question.

a 67.1 centerbore will fit over a 66.1.

BUT a 66.1 will not fit easily over a 67.1

So i don't think you're gonna have an easy time putting OEM Z wheels on a 8.

OEM Z wheels

I run OEM Z wheels on my 8 with Falken RT-615 245/45/17 with no rubbing. The centerbore is not really an issue, just torque it down a couple times in the first 20 miles of driving and they are fine. I've had them for 20,000 with no issues.

I use these for several reasons:
1) the tires are significantly cheaper than 18"
2) 10mm taller sidewall over the stock tires
3) It gears the car down slightly
4) Z wheels are cheap
5) Z wheels are strong

Keep in mind that 17" OEM Z wheels are heavier than than stock and they come in a staggered setup 17x7.5 and 17x8. I have 4 of the 8". The 7.5 work fine too. I have a set of 7.5 painted black for sale, $100.

I could see this working. I'm running 18x9.5 +35 fn01r-c and I have no rubbing issues... the 17x8 +25 should have the same clearance (actually it will probably have more clearance in relation to the fender).

DO IT and find out.

I put the wheels on today. They definitely looked to give very little clearance between the fender and the tire, especially in front, where I have the 25mm offset.

Nonetheless, I took a quick, tire-screaching ride through the back of my neighborhood (which has empty lots and no houses). There was no rubbing and no problems. I have an autocross tomorrow, so that will be the real test.

I'll post pictures of this crazy offset when I have a chance.
