^That will fit even with a drop, so you'll have no problem with stock suspension.

 

rx8speeddemon: Like Nuke said, +40 will give you a 'tucked' look. If that's what you're aiming for then you can run 245/35 and look ok. If you go +30 it'll definately push it out towards the fender and look a little more flush. I've seen +30 w/9" wide and it seems pretty flush. But since you're going 8.5 it should be pretty close. Same tire profile should work (245/35)

Anton: What size wheel are you getting? W/stock suspension, you can fit damn near anything. Racing beat only drops you like .5 (not sure of the actual drop)

stock tires are 225 across. I believe 255 may be going too wide to be of any use.

245/40/18 fits fine with no pinching at all, my thinking is a 255 may pinch just a little. I ask because maximum allowable tire width to autocross in stx is now 265 for a 2wd car. I know they will fit on the wheel, my question is whether or not they will rub

 

^Don't put 265's on stock wheels. Buy some cheap 17x9 and put some 265s on them if you want to run in STX.

 

That's stupid, I know that autox trend where people will even put a 275 in the stock wheel, but that looks so ****** stupid, and in no way is safe. You won't rub, just don't be a ricer and buy the proper wheels.

as I already stated if you read my posts I was asking for autocross purposes about a 255 or 265, I don't really care how it looks since I'm more concerned with function than form. I was pretty sure the 265 would be to wide, which is why I directed more of my question towards the 255, thinking that since the 245 was flush the 255 might pinch just a little but not to badly.

I got 18x8.5 38 offset rims and want to get some Flaken 615s to autox next season (I'll chew on stockies for this season), Ideally I was thinking of doing 235/45/18 to fill out the wheel wells better without actually dropping, but now it seems that very few tires come in that size so I'll probably have to do 245/40/18...which with broad shouldered tire will stick out of the fender a bit in the front...unless I get some more camber in there that is.

 

Anton: I had exactly the same rim size 18x8.5 +38 - i'm currently looking at the same profile. I originally ran 245/40 and had no problems w/my suspension (swift springs, stock shocks). Personally, i prefer 245/35. Either way, you shouldn't have a problem fitting 245/40.

 

why 35? stiffer wall? higher gear ratio?

 

I had falken 452's and i personally tried both and i preferred 35. No technical explanation really - it was more a matter of preference. The response in turns were more crisp IMO.

 

yep stiffer sidewall = less flex, but also stiffer and more chance to bend the rim via pothole - I'm in NYC and roads here are straight up horrible, so more sidewall is a plus here.

 

Your speedometer won't be as far off and you won't have as much wheel gap with the higher profile tires. I doubt the gearing difference will make a noticeable difference anyways.

 

i ended up with 245/45 azenis on 17x10 +25 fn01's ALL four corners.

this seems to have worked before, but i'm getting nervous about the front. my tire place is skeptical they can do it.

I'm should it can be made to work. I don't like how stretched my 245s look on 9.5" rims though. I hope it ends up looking good. Can someone tell me why higher profile tires can't be stretched as much? 245/40/18 is rated up to 9.5 while 245/45/18 is only 9. Don't forget to post pictures!

 

Should not be a problem (other then very stretched look) - I have 225s on 8.5" rim - so your tires will be 20mm wider while your rim will be 35mm wider - 15mm difference is fine

hey guys im planning on ordering some 18X8.5 axis halos, they will be going on the stock tire size (225/45/18) cause i dont feel like buying new tires right now, but i may eventually upgrade to 245/40/18 tires. keeping that in mind what would be the lowest/best offset for me to get: 29, 35, 40, 45? i dont want to have to do any fender rolling and im stuck on stock suspension cause i wont be able to get up my driveway if i do any lowering. thanks.
