Anyone with front wheels that rub the wheel liner? I'm not rubbing on the fenders but definitely both front wheel liners. Anyone mod their liners?

I know not all tires are the same so there could be other tires that are the "same" size that do not rub. Anyone know of a web site with measurements for the actual tire and not just a general measurement for the size of a tire?

In the first picture the wheel is fully locked. I can not get my index finger between the tire and the liner but they are not touching.

The second picture they may be touching. If they are not then maybe a sheet of paper will slide through.

Tires: BFGoodrich KDW NT 255/35

great thread; I'm curious to see if anyone has been able to mod the lining to prevent this.

 

Thanks man. I know there a few others here that are running 255/35/19 front and back like me. I believe someone is running 265 up front but I do not recall if they have 18" or 19" wheels. Also I'm thinking the guys running 18x9.5 275 or 285 tires up front has run into this.

im thinking it has to be the tires....i had the kdw's and they seemed chunkier than other tires of the same size

 

I'm thinking it is KDWs as well. They do not really have radius on the edges of the tires and they could be wider than other 255/35 tires. I was hoping someone would post up a site that has the actual measurements per brand of tire and not just a general measurement.

Also looking for anyone that has modded their liner.

Is it a bad idea to remove it?

Good point. Maybe I can sand down where it is rubbing since it is raised. If I have time today, I will pull the liner before doing anything.

great idea! just sand it down a bit, reinstall and see if you can clear. If not, rinse and repeat.

 

It's interesting that they rub...I have 18X10.5 +43 offset..and they don't rub there...must be the tire profile??

There is no room to sand the area...you might be able to warm it up with a heat gun and bend it out of the way...

Do you know what is behind the wheel liner where I highlighted above? I do not so just wondering why you think it can not be sanded. It is raised and no other part of the liner touches the tire.

What is interesting, per tire calculators, 255/35/19 is the closest you can get to the OE 225/45/18 setup.

 

Those have 265-35-18 Neovas..but the 275-35-18 Azenis..and the 275-35-18 NT01's fit as well???

Definitely what I was thinking. Too busy today to check behind the liner so maybe later in the week.

 

The liner is heat molded plastic...it is about as thick as a pop bottle...you can't sand it

You however can heat mold it with a heat gun and get it out of the way...there is lots of room there...only problem is the plastic has a memory..and tends to relax back to it's original form

 

I did not know that about the plastic liner. I have a heat gun with a 700* and 1000* setting so I may give this a try. I am concerned that it may look like crap when I'm done. Obviously I need to take it slow and be patient. I use my heat quite a bit when I build/rebuild golf clubs. Anyone need some club work done let me know

 

Today I put a strip of duct tape over the rub mark and colored it with a sharpie and then took a drive around the block. Definitely some minor rub still occurring. Unfortunately smoothing out the raised area with heat gun is not going to work because behind the liner is either piece of the fender or door. Looks like I will be looking for new tires.

 

cause i think you should be using 255/30/19 instead!

 

The specs are too off. Again I think it has to do with kdw2 tires being wider than other 255 tires.
