do tire manufactures/sites post the sidewall rigidity? or is it just a 'feel" thing? i have the kdw2's, but i just don't have enough tire experience to know/feel if the sidewall is soft..........

Feel is subjective to the person driving. But for me the turn in is not as crisp and when I get deep into a corner it feels like the car moves laterally a touch before it settles into the corner. I am running coilovers so perhaps I need to add some sways to balance it out as well.

Also forgot to mention the KDW2 tires are LOUD which is another reason I will be moving to the T1Rs.

thanks.

yes, they are loud. i've kinda gotten used to it, but it would be nice for it to be a little quieter. i mean, w/ the windows up, i have to turn the volume down to single digits to talk to my girlfriend!!!

Manufacturers do not have a classification for sidewall rigidity, but you can judge most "Touring Tires (Tyres)" to be soft-walled.

In my experiences, most hard-sided tires are rated UHP "W" and "Y".

I agree that soft is personally subjective.
Soft to me is a feel of compromised breakaway and "squish", along with a cushioned feel of the road surface.

Is that with OEM rims on? I was looking around for my next tires for our OEM rims and pretty much, the tires I like aren't 225/45/18 like our stock ones. Is 245 wider? And what about 45 to 40? Tires is one thing I'm clueless about..

I run that size on OEM rims. I think they look better, but handling is a little different.

First of all, it's probably going to help you more if you tell us your requirements such as life, grip, and civility so that we can offer suggestions. People run all sorts of different tires and what someone says is a great tire another person might feel is trash; it just depends on expectations.

Having said that, I currently run 225/45-18 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1s on 18x8 wheels. These are the non-Star Specs and is probably one of the top four street radials in terms of performance, but coming from 225/45-18 Advan Neova AD07s, which is probably one of the top two in terms of performance, I haven't been greatly impressed. Don't get me wrong, they're a good tire and for the price that I got them for they can't be beat. However, the Neovas are a bit superior in a lot of areas, though they were also twice the price. When I say superior though, I don't think a lot of people would notice the difference at all since they're not pushing their cars to the level, but they probably will notice that the Z1s ride a bit better.

I run 225/45-18s on 18x8 wheels instead of the seemingly common 245/40-18 choice here because I like the feel of having a bit more wheel width support for any given tire width. Though it degrades ride, the tradeoff is that the response and feel of the car is superior. The feel of 245/40-18s on 8" wide wheels is a bit mushier than I care to run. When I wear through these Z1s, I might be looking to get the 9.5" wide RP-F1s and put 245/40-18 tires on them.

Yes, 245's are wider.
The 1st number is width, or cross-section (mm)
The second number aspect ratio (height)
The third set is rim size (inches).

245-40's: The sidewalls are shorter and closely remain the same as the OEM tire height.
This sizing is known as "Plus Zero".
Check this out, it explains it much easier:

BF Goodrich G-Force KDW2
I am looking to purchase new summer tires within a month or so.
My tire of choice right now is the BF Goodrich G-Force KDW2's (I think I'd buy the tire just for the tread design alone...lol)
Anyways, from all the research I've seen this is tire is quite an amazing performer with excellent grip in both dry and wet.
But, and this seems to be a big "BUT", the tire seems to consistently get a bad review for being anywhere from loud to very loud.
My question then is (to anybody running these) would you buy this tire again?....and is the
performance worth the extra noise?
I am looking to put on 235/40/18's, and my 8 is a daily driver which I put a fair bit of miles on each day.....mixed highway and city driving pretty much 50-50.
Any feedback would be great.....
