I have a Shinka with 22,000miles and baby needs new shoes. I am a somewhat agressive driver (always learning) living in Washington State. Not happy with the stock tires, but Looking for a tire to fit stock 18" rims. Something that corners well, quiet, and grips in rain too. Inclimate weather (snow, ice...) rating not nenessary, never leave the yard during those moments. Would be great to hear what you run.

The Toyo T1R is pretty awsome in both the rain and the dry, but the sidewalls are soooo squishy

I put these on my car for the last two months I had it before it went back on the lease. WOW....these were great tires. They stuck to the road much better than the OEM tires.

Also, wondering why you went with the 245/40 and not 245/45.

No worries. Also mean to add that the Proxies 4 (step down from the T1R) are a great tyre but I dont have to deal with snow. Softer sidewall than OEM, but quieter and better grip imho.

245/45 would be SUPER tall!! like monster truck tire -- that middle number (40, 45, etc), the height of the sidewall, is a percentage of the width (225, 235, 245, etc) so 245 (bigger than stock 225) / 45 (same number as stock) would overall be taller than stock tires, b/c 45% of 245 is a bigger number than 45% of 225 ... or something like that

I have 245/40/18 on stock rims, KDW2 - much better than stock, seem a little squirly in the rain, but reviews say otherwise. pretty loud, surprisingly good tread life. not sure on the stiffness of the side wall b/c i really haven't much to compare it too -- but overall it has a been a really good tire for me (altho i live in texas, so i don't deal w/ snow, just sun and rain).

i saw on top gear they were mentioning a run around the track by a new ferrari being an overall better car but a step slower than the previous model -- they all concurred that the former pirelli's used were better than the tire on the new one (bridgestone maybe?). anyway, does anyone run pirelli's on their 8?

I was running Falken FK-452's. I've been running Falken Zeix ZE-912's lately. The 912's seem to do better in the rain, but even the 452's were better than the Bridgestones that were on it.

I'm running stock size by the way.

First off welcome to the board! Be sure to check out he NW section for drives and meets

I run KDW2 255/35/19 front and back. They are excellent in the rain but suck in the snow and lose grip below 40*. Performance wise I find the side walls too soft but overall they provide good grip.

Be sure to compare the size of the tires you are interested to the OE size 225/45/18 so your speedo remains accurate and keep you from running out your warranty faster than normal They come with a 300 tread rating so they last a good while.

FWIW I plan to go with Toyo T1R next time around.
