TPMS - switching from snows to summers

TPMS - switching from snows to summers
I've done a search and I don't think this exact question has been addressed. I'm about to switch from my snow wheels/tires back to my summer rims/rubber on my 09 RX-8 R3. The handbook recommends having the dealer do this swap because of the TPMS. For someone who has done a lot of user maintenance of his cars (including changing his own tires) for the past 30 years, this goes against the grain.
Having said that, the procedure for "TPMS to complete the ID signal code registration" described in the handbook for DIYers who change their tires is quite involved:
- turn the ignition to "ON" and then back to "ACC" or "LOCK";
- wait 15 minutes; and
- then drive for at least 10 minutes at a speed of at least 25 kph (16 mph).
That sounds reasonably straight forward, except I'm wondering if I have to drive for 10 minutes CONTINUOUSLY at more than 25 kph to get the recalibration to work? There are so many stop signs between my house and the nearest highway, that I can't go for more than a couple minutes without having to stop. The handbook says that if the ID signal does not register, you have to go through entire procedure again.
That being the case, the only way I can see making this work is to install my tires, drive to the highway, park on the shoulder and start the procedure there, waiting 15 mins and then pulling out to do the mandatory 10 mins driving at speeds above 25 kph.
I hope I'm being too literal in my interpretation of the handbook instructions. What have other people experienced in getting their TPMS to register the ID signal code?
