TPMS light came on, wtf?

I was taking a ride over to my gf's house, and I start my 8 and the TPMS light stayed on. This was the first time it's done it, so before I backed out I got out of my car, and checked the tires, everything seemed fine.

Before I stopped at my gf's house, I put some air into the tires. As I was putting air in one of my back tires, I notice a stupid screw all the way into my tire. I look at it for a little, and it's all the way in there, no inbetween the tread, but ontop.

After a couple of swear words, I get back in the car, start the car and see if the light comes on. Doesn't come on. On my way back home from my gf's I start the car and no light.

Was this just a false alarm or will this screw really take it's toll on the tire?

Was it cold? Sometimes the light comes on when the weather is cold

I noticed you said "checked the tires" and "put some air into the tires". Did you check the tires with a gauge of your own? Did you put air into the tires to make sure they all are up to spec (at least 32 psi into cold tires, but 35psi keeps the light off for me even when ambient temps dip), and not add air to tires that don't need it?

A couple of months ago I had a nail that was in my tire. TPMS came on about once every 2 weeks, slowly degrading into once every week. I got the tire fixed, and I haven't had to add air since then.

why don't you start with the obvious and take care of the screw first. i'm 100% sure the screw is leaking air causing the TPMS light to come on.

If you opt to repair your tire, it is no longer rated at the original speed rating. I picked up a screw 2 weeks ago and ended up getting the all new BFGoodrich G-Force KDW2s all the way around. These things really hook up! I got mine from Tirerack.com. Talk to Dallas at Ext. 267 and he'll hook you up. It was like $155 a pop and they had them in stock.
