Tires?

Looking for some recommendations on tires. Size is 245 /40/18..... I presently have Potenza SO-3 poles. Looking for something possibly better.

There are few tires better than SO-3's, but a lot of choices that are worse...

I used to have F1's, but they ran $280 per tire for my 19" rims. I currently have Exclaim UHP tires - which feel very similar. Price was $120 per tire. Got them from tirerack.com. They are not ULTRA high performance, but they will give you performance without a high price tag, and they will not wear out quickly.

Edit, Direct link: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....el=Exclaim+UHP

The Azenis are very good. I have the Goodyear Eagle F1. Compared to the Azenis, they're not quite as sticky, but last longer. If you track the F1's, run them at a higher pressure. I found out this past weekend at Summit Point they perform much better when they're 44 PSI hot. Depending on the track and temperature, that's anywhere from 34-38 cold.

Check Car & Driver's report on 11 performance street tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y_f1_gs_d3.jsp

Edit: Now priced $168.00 for 225/40-18

go get T1-R or 050A!
the azenis 615 is very good for track, but not very good at wet traction!

I'd be careful with 245/40/18. I have not used this size, but 3 of my 4 stock rims have dents in them using the stock tire size. Probably from setting my suspension to very firm on track events and running over the curbing, but be weary of this becuase 245/40's have a slightly lower sidewall profile than the stock tires.

If you have stock or softer suspension and never track the car (and don't hit railroad crossings like a champ), you likely don't need to worry...

It's a neglible difference though. The 225/45-18's have a diameter of 26.0 inches. The 245/40-18's have a diameter of 25.7 inches. That means your rim is less than a quarter of an inch lower to the ground. But I agree to the stiff settings. I'd love to leave my Tokicos stiff all the time, but that would shorten the life of my tires.

Agreed.
