Tire size- fit or not

Im currently looking for snow tires and came across some but the size is slightly off. The tires that I have now are 225/40 rz18. the tires I found for sale are 225/45 r18. Will these tires still fit?

Looks like you made a typo. Care to specify which size you have?

Like speedracer said, stock size is 225/45R18. Another common option is 245/40R18 as they are very similar in daimeter, yet 20 mm wider.

I would suggest narrower tires for winter use though, as they perform better through snow and ice. Do you plan on mounting them on stock wheels?

So 245/40R18 would go on stock 8J 18" wheels then? Blimey, I look at my alloys and the tyre is already out from the alloy?

18x8 wheels are within the suggested range for 245/40R18, but it is on the edge.

215-50-17 on cheap 7.5" wheels works well for snow tires .....

Why not? I bought a barely used set of Blizzaks in that size for $75 a piece instead of the retail of $281 a piece. So the speedo is off a bit. Who cares?
