time for koni?

hey - please bear with me on this post. I know there are plenty of posts abt konis, but i have a question. I have an '04 with just over 41,000 miles. I put tein s springs (which I absolutely love) on a few thousand miles ago. The drop is perfect, and the ride is just harsh enough in a straight that it reminds me I dropped it, but not so bad that it's uncomfortable. SO ... I've heard great things about the konis, but honestly I just didn't think about getting them since everyone said the tein s's would be fine with stock shocks (which they are!). BUT ... now that I'm 41,000 miles in with my stock shocks, at what point should I get new ones? Also, are my tein s springs making them wearing out faster than they would have?

This all stems from reading a description by koni saying the stock shocks can sometimes show wear after 20,000 miles!!

Note: this is a daily driver; I drive somewhat aggressively on a good mix of city and highway; but I do not track or autocross at all. This would strictly be to compliment the tein s drop and to make the ride as comfortable as possible while still being more aggressive than the stock ride.

Finally ... I noticed IMMEDIATELY that the tein s gave yield to a much louder "thump" with road bumps or pot holes, and I'm sure I haven't noticed a difference since I've had them, but the 20,000 miles shock thing just got me thinking if I should go ahead and install the konis now or ride out my stocks for a while.

Sorry for the long post ....... thanks though for anyone that can give me advice!

i wouldnt worry much about the 20k miles they mentioned on the koni site...

NOW..I can definitly tell you that the s-techs are going to wear your shocks much faster then the stock springs.

if you only droped your car a few thousand miles ago...i suspoect if should last a lil bit long like maybe another 15k to 20k miles...until your stock shocks go...

but becuase you alread had 40k on it before you drop..so i can cant really give you any advice becuase i have no been in that kind of situation....

maybe someone with better suspension logic can chime in!

Koni's and S-techs work VERY well together! I wouldn't worry too much about that 20,000 mile claim by Koni, it's just their way to get people to buy their stuff SOONER.

Even as a daily driver, remember that the Koni's are adjustable so you can play with settings until you find what's comfortable for you. (the rears cannot be adjusted while on the car, only fronts) If you do decide to get Koni's, check out one of our forum vendors; DPE

if your just cruising around, ie no racing, I would think you could get 60-70K mi out of the stock shocks with aftermarket springs.

if you race the car or push it on a regular basis, your talking maybe 45-50K. The stock sports shocks are fairly stout per racing beat, but then also didn't lower the car as much as you did with the Stechs.

thanks for all the responses guys. if i got the konis, would they help dampen the loud "thump" i get now with the tein s when i get pot holes or road bumps between lanes? (i don't understand exactly what shocks do so excuse that if it's a dump question.)

oh, i got my teins from dpe - very knowledgeable and awesome customer service.
