Stoptech Slotted Brake Rotors
Does anyone have any experience with Stoptech's RX-8 slotted brake discs? I'm talking about the direct replacement, not the BBK. I like the price per rotor as written by the company.

Go Texas Longhorns!
stoptech makes so good stuff, I saw a bunch of people out at Texas World Speedway with there full on kits. Why are you looking to switch? Our brakes, other than the dust are quite good, I think perofrmance wise a nice need set of performance pads, and some motul fluid will give you more bang for your buck, unless your going for looks.
Keep in mind that slotted and cross drilled rotors can't be resurfaced, so you'll only get about 30K out of them here in Houston

Near as I can tell those are the same rotors that Rotora sells for our car. Chances are both companies are selling something made by another company.

Check the RX8Store, all the rotors are already available at a much better price.
Rotors will weight the same as stock as they are just stock replacements. Also, these can be resurfaced, whoever said they couldnt, is mistaken.

We have a new winner. $350 for a full set is significantly better than what I found a month ago. And yes these sound like the same ones StopTech and Rotora sell.

I'll side with brillo on this one.
The brake rotors are as big as they can get. I don't want to increase the unsprung weight of the car by adding larger brakes. I'll probably just switch brake pads for something a bit more aggressive.
Heh. I forgot I even made this thread. PDE racked my brain.
This thread is still open to suggestions. If anyone has reviews on these brake rotors, please feel free to share.

i have the sloted rotors from mazdatrix.....i think they are made by "raceing brakes" man dob they work good with the kev pads! and if you really need to come off 100mph and then agin in the next few min......they work even better the second time:D the steel lines help the pedal feel too.......if you do it ......do it right. get all three componints!

Do not be mislead, bigger is not always heavier, and we have proven that. Our big brake kit sheds 26 pounds of unsprung weight off the front end of the car all while using much larger and beefier components. Each forged 4 piston caliper is 10 pounds lighter and each rotor is 3 pounds lighter. 3 pounds of rotating mass!!! All while being larger in overall diameter and much thicker than stock too. Directionally vaned to boot

A perfect example of this is StopTech's kit on an RSX. It reduced rotating mass (primarily in the hat) but due to the larger rotor they found 7 less HP on a DynoJet.
StopTech will be one of the first to tell you a big brake kit's primary purpose is to give consistent repeated stops without brake fade. Most OEM brakes can't do that. RX-8's are one of the few that can.

well if your actuly looking you would see that the stock brakes with the exeption of the calipers are weak! how do i know.........25,000 miles and the rotors worped like an old wooden fince.

I had 25,000 miles, 30+ autocross events and one track day at Laguna Seca with no rotor warpage.

mayde i drive a little harder than you? iv ben to three drift events and im not the best in the world so yes sometimes they wer a little punished. and why would an autoX warp a rotor. i think you need speeds over 40mph to really get them hot. but never the less im so very proud of your ability to prolong wear :D

Its funny, a lot of people dont realize how much braking IS involved in braking. Except in drifting, its different than a road race situation.
Overheating is not the real issue in drifting, pedal modulation and feel is what is critical. They def do use the brakes though

Docofmind, I never claimed drifting doesn't use brakes--especially a quick yank of the e-brake (which you don't do in any other kind of driving). It's the "punish rotors" part that I'm unaware of. Hence my request for clarification.
Meanwhile mspeed11 seems to think autocross doesn't go faster than 40mph. He may also be unaware that uneven pad deposition is the most common cause of what people perceive as rotor warpage but we won't go there.
Oh, another data point: murix has attended at least three track events that I know about, all on OEM rotors without problems.

Doesn't Speedsource use the OEM calipers and rotors on their Grand AM cars?
If that's good enough for their applications, that's good enough for me. Just need SS lines and some new pads.
