I would not run a staggered set up in the winter. Trust me. As soon as it starts to get icy out we are going to have all kinds of threads about how people are sliding all over the place and how they now love there live much more ect ect.

Why stagger them? Are you talking about having the winter tires only on the rear? If so, you'll be fine until you try to take your first corner.

Sure, it's possible, it's just REALLY BAD idea. Winter tires should be narrower than stock size if at all possible for best traction. Same width as stock is second best; going wider is pointless and counterproductive, because it will reduce traction on snow/ice.
