spring rates

who wants to give me a quick lesson about spring rates? I'm shopping for coilovers, but I have no clue what the spring rates mean!

Simply put it, the higher the number [in kgs or lbs], the stiffer it's gonna be.

Also, if it's paired with proper damping, stiffer isn't necessarily harsh.
